Anyone further back than Bill Clinton would be entirely based on hearsay or the bias of history books since I didn't live through them. Trump easily beats out Biden, Obama, Bush Jr and Clinton, but that's also ignoring the fact we are only one month into a term that is so far very, very different (in a good way) from his first.

Now going off of what I know about the next several presidents back...

Trump beats out Bush Senior, Reagan is (in my opinion) good but overrated due to the fact he followed Carter, and in recent news, people don't realize how involved with USAID he was - nowhere near as bad as Obama and Biden, but it's just another case of a president looking the other way for personal benefit, at best. It goes without saying Trump is better than Carter, Ford, Nixon, or Johnson, and I don't see a good argument that he isn't better than Kennedy too. Eisenhower was not very good, Truman was obviously jaded by his time in office and dealing with his predecessor's bullshit, FDR is one of the worst presidents the US ever had despite glowing treatment by most history books, Hoover was negligibly better but pretty indefensible... You have to go to at least Calvin Coolidge to make a strong argument for a contender, and there's basically nobody alive today who would remember that administration. You'd then have to leap to either Teddy, Garfield, Grant, or Lincoln, in all cases they are propped up for one or two things while completely ignoring the rest of their terms or lasting impacts.

In fact, most US presidents are nowhere near as remarkable or effectual as one would believe, for better or worse. There has been an undeniable trend, especially from Woodrow Wilson onward in which the president acts largely as a figurehead while what would now be referred to as the "deep state" or "administrative state" has run things more or less the same regardless of who is in office. This is also why Coolidge stands out, because him and Trump (second term specifically) are the only two times in history in which the size and power of the federal government were significantly reduced in any meaningful way. In other claimed instances, they didn't actually reduce government at all, but rather created new agencies or bodies to outsource the abuse and contribute to bloat, such as what JFK did with the CIA and USAID, and arguably Bush with the creation of the DHS.
