What are they about and what are they trying to do?

Department of Government efficiency.
They are finding where taxpayers money was spent on dumb ass programs, where it was wasted.
Like 2.5 million for electric vehicles for Vietnam, 2 million for sex changes and LGBT activism in Guatmala, 6 million to fund tourism in Egypt, just all sorts of projects that make a lot of people go Huh?
Supposedly they found people that would be 150 years old still collecting social security benifits along with other possible fraud.
And it has bee going on for decades.
We don't even take care of our own citizens, veterans, homeless people living in tent cities, the government has been spending money literlly faster than they can print it.
The national debt and deficit have so many zeros in it no one knows if it can ever get paid back.
all of that makes the dollar worth less, so prices go up, it's a never ending cycle.
Think of it as a line by line audit of where our money is being spent and on what.
Think how your financial picture would look like if you just spent money without knowinf or caring where it went.
This is taxpayers money, money we earned by working, and my feeling is that I have a right to know what it is being spent on.

It is a Federal agency called Dept. of Government Efficiency. It was proposed in 2024 by then Presidential Candidate Donald Trump. It originally was going to be run by Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy. Mr. Ramaswamy decided that he would run for the governorship of Ohio so Mr. Musk will manage the agency himself.
After President Trump won the election the agency has been trying to identify waste, fraud and corruption in the Federal Government. So far they have investigsted USAID finding billions of dollars being spent on programs that were either not in the nations best interests or downright detrimental to the country. Some of the taxpayer money was spent on organizations that funded terrorism. In the agency's first two weeks it has found over 50 billion dollars in wasteful spending This was in spite of multiple restraining orders by democrat appointed judges in an attempt to thwart the agency's efforts. Recently judges have ruled in President Trump's favor and future efforts by DOGE will be allowed.
DOGE has discovered waste in the Social Security Administration. 40 million people over a hundred years old were collecting Social Security benefits. They will be looking t the Pentagon next.

They are about firing everyone, even important people like nuclear scientists and air traffic controllers that are critical to the country because Trump needs to save money for a tax break for himself and Elon.

It is an Executive Branch department. Department of government efficiency. Its purpose is to  report  apparent waste, fraud and corruption to the President. They are hired auditors. They have no  government authority  whatsoever.
