I saw this play out earlier in life. When police deal with a large bully and a weaker one... what do they do? Do they figure out whom is wrong or right or do they establish control?

They establish control... by siding with the bully. That defuses the situation... as long as the smaller one isn't armed and dangerous.

Trump is siding with the large and powerful bully that is steamrolling across Ukraine fields. That... is the only way to defuse this. The other option is to fully continually arm ukraine and watch people die until Russia gives up. That will be a long time.

The goal is to end it. It's sad people don't see the games he plays and how he plays them. Oh well...

Realize, Trump is the only leader... including ones in the USA... with an angle to possibly defuse this before it goes more global... adding more foreign fighters, creating the tinder for WWIII.

It may or may not work. I suspect it will in time. Whether it is lasting, is questionable.

Making effort to the other side makes a chance to get movement on hardened positions. That's worked. The question is, can some lasting conclusions be made... or are they temporary.

Fortunately, the US was on the losing end of the vote blaming Russia for invading. As for the "American-backed resolution calling for a swift end to the conflict", a veto would be saying you want the conflict not to end quickly, when we all want that (preferably by the simple expedient of Putin packing up his invaders and going home).

Perhaps you shouldn't have elected a person who doesn't realise countries aren't businesses, they can't declare bankruptcy, and that Zelensky's not playing cards, he's fighting for his people's very survival. If Zelensky can't get Russia out of Ukraine, or at least gain NATO membership for what's left, any peace agreement is just breathing time for Putin to build up his forces for the next time.

Oh, and Trump doesn't seem to understand that seeing the remains of Ukrainians raped, tortured and murdered and the stories of their children being stolen from them can cause normal people to have extreme emotional reactions.

And how the hell does siding with the aggressor help anyone's negotiating position?
