Do you see being shy and quiet as positive? Is it creating your own standard of a fulfilling life? You are a good person right? Yet you want something more. What is that more? How do you get it?

I used to be crippling shy and even cry unable to communicate. Who? What? When? Where? Why? How? I couldn't connect with the world and the other people around me.

I could withstand how much it hurts when I only suffered the consequences. When others suffered the pain of my shyness it ate me alive.

It still takes some extra practice doing new things and shyness sneaks up time from time. I'm still the person I want to be.

Don't confuse my quiet with shyness. I'm sitting here evaluating you. Maybe I've already written you off. I won't engage with people who aren't worth my time.

No, not at all, I’m personally a very reserved person. As I grew older I came to realize that people respect you more because of it. Don’t get me wrong I love to talk to people that I know very well, but it makes you a good observer in regards to choosing who you hang out with.

I'm a lot like that too! I've noticed that some people tend to gravitate more towards me because I don't talk much. I'm a good listener and they feel comfortable opening up with me. Some people have confided really personal stuff with me without me even asking.

Quiet people tend to display awkward behaviour.. since they are believed to be thinking as they are quiet

It makes people feel like you don't want them around.

Well, most of the time I don't want them around. I'm a completely different person with my friends and family than with other people.

lmao if you don't want people around, why are you surprised that others would pick up on that vibe?

They don't pick on that vibe they just say I'm very serious and quiet.

Of course they pick up on that vibe. That's why they're making the comment. They're not just going to come out and say "hey, it doesn't seem like you want me around" because that's a needlessly antagonistic way to approach the situation.

ROFL, you get the "very serious" comment too? One woman out with a group who were trying to chat up my friends and I a few weeks ago got fed up with my non participation. She looks at me and says... "I'm gonna call you smiley because you never smile". OK, she made me laugh.

I would rather be around a quiet, thoughtful person than a loud, obnoxious one.

Absolutely! I'm just in my mind and no one knows what I'm thinking. Most of the time I'm just watching people talk a bunch of sh*t and judging LOL.

I don't think it's considered bad in and of itself, but may be that it's comorbid with things that people consider bad. Ie loneliness.
