Compared to a Biden, Obama, Bush, Clinton, etc. I don't think those guys inspire discussion like Trump, and don't think they are as loved/hated as him. I think more people are neutral on them, compared to Trump

u 1 yI dont know. There were a lot of discussions and hate/love about Obama when he was in office, mostly because of his race and him being a Democrat. It may not have been as visceral as it is with Trump, but it most certainly happened. It was Trump himself who fed a lot of those rumors about Obama.
As to your question though, I believe it's because we have been further divided as a nation where in the past we could at least coexist and sometimes compromise. Now it's become our team vs their team with no compromising on that front. Trump is just the face of one team.00 Reply

1 ytRump is polarizing because...
Half the population are imbeciles who can't see tRump is lying to them and playing them constantly but actually despises them.
The other half of the population can easily see that tRump is a lying cheating morally corrupt malignant narcissist, sociopath, and pathological liar who can't ever be trusted for anything by anyone.

He makes money for media outlets of all kinds. So 25 years ago there just wouldn't have been this kind of constant conversation people are having online. It is also 100% that the people who have real power use him and his ideas to distract from the people from the real power the super rich.00 Reply

1 yI’m a former Trump supporter,
I believe it is because there are people who see him as an honest, transparent, hard working, and self made man due to places like Fox News, Tucker Carlson, Alex Jones, etc. making him out to be a ‘good guy’.
You have people who see him for the Crypto SuperPacs ($135 mil), AI Industry Big Techs ($1 million each), and for the lies & broken promises from the first administration and his hypocrisy / flip flopping in realtime.
Coinbase, Kraken, Robinhood, Dogecoin, Bitcoin and more all deposited a total of $135 million into the Trump Campaign to get Trump elected. Google, Meta, Apple, X, and more all contributed $1 million each into the Trump Transition.
Trump’s original promises were repeal Obamacare with a bigger more beautiful plan yet never did it, an end to Afghanistan War within one term never did it, Infrastructure Plan (I alone can fix it) didn’t happen, Veteran Benefits didn’t happen, and so on.
Biden Administration actually achieved pullout of Afghanistan, Bipartisan Infrastructure Plan, Veteran Benefits via Pact Act, and Infrastructure Plan passed too which were all promises of his campaign with less majority in both houses. No excuse Trump couldn’t achieve it and bring the country together, instead tore it apart during Covid19 Pandemic.Donald J Trump is a divisive figure because he himself made it to be so. He is an insufferable asshole, looking at the 200+ Environmental Regulations he wiped out with a Thanos snap is all you need to know. Regulations that reduce lead in the water & harmful chemicals dumped into our nation’s lakes, rivers, streams… This is heinous and irresponsible as a former Trump supporter, frankly UnAmerican.

Also from the stealing of boxes upon boxes totaling up to 300+ classified documents & having Elon Musk ask for classified material in top secret federal connections to summarize what federal agents did last week or else they’ll be fired….
This definitely doesn’t hold water:
“If she were to win this election, it would create an unprecedented constitutional crisis. In that situation, we could very well have a sitting president under felony indictment and ultimately a criminal trial.”

1.2K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. It is actually pretty simple. Normally you have more of a gradient as you described with other candidates. However, if for example you have a universally loved or hated candidate then pretty much all the opinion is going to be on one side or the other. After that you just need to add another group that has an irrational opinion of the person such as hatred or love which is not really based on something they have done or are.
And tadaaa~ You have a case where a person has completely polarized groups on both ends of the spectrum of popularity. Trump as an example has a loyal fanbase (personality cult) and the rest of the people hates him.

1 yIt's simple, it's because the rich and powerful can't control him like they have controlled every other president. Everyone loved Obama, his net worth went from 1.3mil at the start of his presidency up to 70mil at the end. Clinton was the same, 1.3 up to 120. Everyone was the same with a massive increase, except Trumps net worth tanked.
The billionaires control the world, but how do you buy a billionaire to force him to do things you want instead of what he wants? You can't, he is already a billionaire, so you destroy him in the media.
Liberals are easy to manipulate because they are more feelings based vs conservatives tend to be more fact and logic, so getting liberals to hate him is pretty easy.
It does help that he also tends to say stupid things from time to time

1 yBecause he's a disruptor. He's the first president that doesn't just go down the business as usual path in many generations, one of the few in America's history. He realized that we cannot continue to go down the same path and survive into the future continuing to be the greatest nation in the history of the human race unless we take drastic measures to turn the ship of our country around. And that is exactly what he is doing. Naturally this creates a great deal of controversy and even upheaval. But if we don't do it this country is finished.
There is no other individual in the United States today who would be able to achieve this except President Trump. Like Washington or Lincoln, he is the right leader at the right time in the right place. It's harder to imagine that it is not divinely inspired than that it is.
00 Reply 2.5K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. He is very good at creating a divisive environment by alienating certain demographics and promising prosperity to the politically ignorant. Those easily charmed by his charisma and swayed by his misinformation flock to him whereas those who can see through his bravado and voluble mendacity despise him.
Unfortunately most people don’t really have time to understand the broader ideologies of a political leader outside of the one or two policy proposals they care about. Occasionally one of those things will be something that doesn’t even affect their life and simply constitutes populist identity politics. That was very much apparent from public forums as the last election campaign unfolded. As a result, a lot of voters have ended up disaffected by voting for Donald Trump purely because they didn’t realise he never had their best interests in mind.

1 yHe lacks the sophistication expected from the position. He enthusiastically appeals to frat boys and anyone at the corner bar draining PBR off a Friday night but anyone with a 491k is anxiously hoping this will end so they can afford retirement. Plus left and right views are getting mixed up with good vs evil and everyone is angry with anyone with a different view. Americans have lost their ability to disagree and name calling from the president is throwing gasoline on that fire

1 yWell Donald Trump has said controversial things, People on the right eats it right out of his hand while the left despises the ground he walks on. I think his quote 'Make america great again' stood out. To the right they want a golden age for america while the left probably doesn't think america was ever great. It depends what lens you look at him through. He rolled back stuff such as roe v wade thats why there are people that hate him.

1 yI'm a Non-American however he often comes cross to me the last couple of years as like a guy who acts and behaves and often seems to turn to his advisers as if he's just "following other people's guidance aka his advisers guidance" and it's like - how odd. 🧐
05 Reply- 1 y
He does seem to me like a guy who's easily swayed by his advisers when decision making or even thinking what's for breakfast. Strange fellow to my brain.
- 1 y
Despite how he may try to present himself as a guy who makes his supposed own rash decisions in front of cameras. He actually makes me think he's just a, well, uhh, a puppet like figure.
- 1 y
@Extraterrestrial1999 do you think you ever notice any contradictions the way he talks say to a camera versus when he seems like he often struggles to make a decision or put a sentence together of saying a yes, a no or even saying something brash or rash - he's just odd at times. Depending how good you are at discerning behavioural mannerisms
- 1 y
@Extraterrestrial1999 one hour he presents himself as a guy who's a self-decision maker and then next hour he's like "oh, uh, um, I'll have to get back to you on that" or "I haven't made up my mind" while he eyeballs his advisers in suits off-camera the whole time. It's like - how can one guy claim to be a big personality and yet be hesitant to make a decision or even reverse a previous decision he made an hour before. The only shrug attitude I can have is "he's either an oddball when it comes to listening to his advisers, or he presents himself differently to the cameras than to how he performs his actual job day to day when the cameras aren't rolling" - odd. Totally odd man. :(
- 1 y
@Extraterrestrial1999 in conclusion bemused and taken aback, he's an odd contradictions type fellow. Says one thing, can't decide another, changes his mind. Strange. So that's why I think to myself, well he must be someone who just you know, is either a puppet like man or a man who makes a rash decisions then backtracks when someone smarter aka advisers say no you can't do that or actually this is what you should've said two hours ago to the media. Lol 😂😆
27.1K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. He is not a politician. He knows how to get things done and is not concerned about how business in Washington is done. All the backroom deals that go on are out the window and all the kickbacks and skimming cannot go on. Even swampy Republicans hate him. The vast majority of Americans like his policies and remember how much better things were when he was president.

Anonymous(36-45)1 yHe has crippled America in just over a month and has made it clear he wants to destroy the world's economy and is well on his way of doing it, and you ask this question?
He even rigged the election and not only that, he admitted to it not only once but twice. MAGA people are such uneducated dumbasses.

1 yin the world of politics when people hate or try to assassinate you that means you are doing something right.
unlike our past recent presidents Trump is trying to get the global elites off our asses hence why they hate him so much. these people control most of the media and news network, so they use this to their advantage and push negative narrator on the man.
with that said I dont think I need to explain why he is also so loved
00 ReplyRaw American patriotism. If you hate America and think our founding was trash and that we should be genocided by illegal migrants in recompense you hate Trump. If instead you thin, America has had a positive effect on the world and has the right to exist then you like Trump.
More or less. I suppose there's some gradation, but I've never met someone that LOVES America that hates Trump, and I've never met someone that hates America and loves Trump.
00 Reply2.8K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. You have people following traditional authorities sources that oppose him. And you have people who don't take those seriously that like him. If his coverage was popular he'd generally be well liked.
