Why did Trump and Musk just shut down Voice of America and other radio stations?

This is just one of many broadcasting stations who give information to people who live in tyrranies and who are oppressed. Radio stations like Radio for Europe, Radio Marti, Radio Liberty, are just a few. Russia and China are thrilled by this favor. Why is he doing this?

Just simple budget-cuts can't explain the targeted way in which Trump and Elon has gone after the specific programs that USA uses to project soft power around the world.

I am simply left with concluding that Trump and Elon has some other motivating factor. Maybe it is ideological, which would be strange. More likely however is that they have a foreign power interested in seeing these tools of America to control and manipulate the world be dismantled. Russia most likely since Trump, while friendly towards China in some aspects still appear to have some beef with all these trade wars.

So yeah, I believe that Trump is doing this as a favor or on the orders of Putin.

I'm not sure about this. When I was much younger, one of my hobbies was shortwave DXing, and listening to VOA was common.

The reported rationale is that VOA, in particular Global Media, its parent company, has gotten too big, is wasteful, and spreads liberal information, not the balanced info I used to listen to.

I'm in favor of reducing waste. One can never eliminate it, but shutting down VOA is questionable.
