I'm told there's a internet challenge going on right now called the SNAP challenge where people try to survive on the ~$6/ person/ day that SNAP recipients receive for nutrition assistance.

I'd imagine for myself the shopping choir for olny eligible food is the bulk of the challenge. 10 gallons of milk is great and all but...

So here's my really shitty segue into food programs which is a great investment in of themselves for tax payers dollar for dollar. I want to point out the only "welfare queens" are the farmers getting tax payer money for high over priced over stock milk. Thats where 3 gallons of milk for every kid is a thing. The Half back wall of every grocery store is milk and milk products.

I once had to survive on $4 a day, so I could easily do $6 a day. What made it possible was taking advantage of weekly sales at local supermarkets.

It also depends... do you receive the SNAP payments daily, weekly or monthly? I once bought a book about eating on a tight budget. The book suggesting spending all your money at once to buy meal ingredients that you can use more than once.

Yes... as long as able bodied with a car. That is the problem, logistics.

It's easy... I pickup cans and bottles and cash them in, then buy food. PB and bread, bananas are cheap. In addition to what I grow, beg, I'd be ok.

But it is tough when you are older or injured or lack transport.
