Go To The Mountains And Grow Beards, Or Do Nothing And Remain Western?

I couldn't find the article, but a while ago Georgia's ex-President Mikheil Saakashvili in 2008 stated, ~"We had a choice here. We could turn this country into Chechnya, we had enough people and equipment to do that; Or, we had to do nothing and stay a modern European country. Eventually we would have chased them away, but we would've had to go to the mountains and grow beards. That would have been a tremendous national, philosophical, and emotional burden..."

So, is it better to go into the mountains and grow beards, or remain Western? How do you interpret this question and what do you think. I tried thinking about it and came up with a few different ideas, but wanted to see what GaG thought.

I already have a beard and live in the mountains.

Mountains are nice. And people who live there learn to be rugged.
But if you wanted to chase "them" (who's them, Russians?) away, you should stock up on Stinger missiles, RPGs and automatic weapons like the Afghanis.

I don't know why you need to grow beards. If that guy can shave his head, he can shave his face.

Russians yes, after they annexed some of his territory I do believe. It seems to me that he was essentially stating that they had the capability and armaments to do so, but it would be too much of a hassle to defend their own territory. I find it to be a pretty strange proposition, but if my poll is to be believed it's pretty much equal.
