Kinda like guns. If guns are a deterrent why would you want to conceal it?

Capital punishment DOESN'T work, as statistics prove; America's racism, classism and general backwardness (it's a homeless boy in an Armani suit) which allow it to be the sole First World country practicing this antediluvian barbarism.
Capital punishment doesn't work. It goes against due process in my opinion. If someone got convicted of something heinous and gets executed, no amount of evidence of the convict's innocence would make any amends after that.

Concealed carry is a deterrent because you don't know who will be carrying. Also open carrying makes yourself a target, thus not as much of a threat to ne'er-do-wells.
I think there should be public executions. in my opinion it's important to acknowledge that some people and some crimes are so heinous that they deserve death. Perhaps modern westerner's don't have any appetite for it, but they will soon if leftists continue to have their way. Same thing happened in the 90s when vigilantes became lauded. We've given up our right to exact justice on behalf of our loved ones to a an allegedly impartial third party system which worked well for quite some time. It isn't anymore and more and more people will start to take justice into their own hands as a result.
Depends on whether or not you count the liberal cities in those states. Crime is a local community issue rather than a state or federal level issue (for the most part). Cops, judges, and prosecutors are primarily at the local level. Same thing happens at the national level. US has a high crime rate, but if you remove 5% of the worst counties for violent crime we have one of the lowest crime rates in the world.
Doubt we know... how many people stopped doing a crime out of fear of death? Most know they won't get caught or convicted or die, so don't do it.
and the problem would be people convicted wrongly. That's the big issue.
I would assume though given I've met some awful people... they aren't thinking about punishment but their own emotions, ego, pride, hate.
It definitely stops an individual from doing crime again.
There is no fun in it - and no show.
This could change if gun owners and enthusiast are invited to -ermm- give it a shot themselves.
I can even think of an annual championship, a live show, and some merchandise going with it.
Ask the Holy President - he will love it.
There was not so long ago and they drew large crowds to watch the condemned dance on the end of a rope. Funny thing was it never discouraged crime.
They dragged someone behind a pickup truck in Texas, I think it was, not that many years ago.
Capital punishment doesn't work and executions are (now days) meant to be a punishment and not a public spectal. One day the US will join other developed countries and will replace capital punishment with life in prison.
False equivalence, sunny,.
The point of executions is deterrent, not spectacle.
if they are 100% sure they are guilty, then bring back the guillotine!
that's false. and i'm 100% sure of it! but i'd love to hear the defensive reasoning behind your stance.
so if an imperfect human said that they were an imperfect human, your response is that's not 100% true.
i was honestly thinking about just that yesterday. we very well could be.
because people like percentages and times tables. you get this amount of consequence but we'll tack on umpteenth percent for miscellaneous bullshit laws that overlap each other? oh but wait, the prosecution wants to keep their 100% guilty status, so they offer a plea deal and justice isn't served.
i'm a libra. it's the only thing i like about the zodiac.
i demand justice. it doesn't have to be in a court.
but to your question. i would have to be 100% sure before an execution. it is capital punishment and...
i can see it now. "Executions Gone Wild" commercial and back to what? "Blind Love" lol
I agree with implementing these penalties for serious crimes such as abortion.
It discouraged them from committing the same crime again.
How do you think soceity in the 1800s where poverty was rife convinced people not to just take whatever they wanted by force. The more impoverished people are the more needs there is for a deterrence needed.
I would rather see public caning or whipping.
Jesus. Don't remind them.
Seriously?
I'm sure he has a point, but not the one you're thinking of.
True, but we are talking about the rationality of it being a deterrent and how we expose children to deterrents in hopes that it will make them into better, and in this case, more law abiding citizens. The logic makes perfect sense if you think that this would actually improve a persons future behavior.
I never viewed it as a deterrent.
Was Old yeller put down to send an example to other dogs?
Putting Old yeller down absolutely served a purpose. Can you really not see why?
