Well depending on where you live in the US apparently women can get arrested for a miscarriage. Isn't that just swell?

A woman in Tifton, Georgia was arrested this week after disposing of a miscarried fetus in a dumpster. Selena Maria Chandler-Scott, 24, was found unconscious and bleeding by EMS after miscarrying. Police later found the remnants of her fetus in a bag in a dumpster nearby, after a witness reported seeing her dispose of the bag.

Chandler-Scott was arrested and charged with concealing the death of another person, and one count of throwing away or abandonment of a dead body. Tifton Police said in a press release the fetus died as a result of a miscarriage, not an abortion. She was transferred to Tift Regional Medical Center for treatment after being found, and was not immediately charged.

It's unclear what Chandler-Scott should have done to avoid charges in this case. Her arrest is another example of the rights of a fetus taking precedence over the rights of women in red states. Vagueness in the language of Republican abortion bans has led women to avoid going to the hospital for care of miscarriages. Any intervention to save the women's life could be interpreted as an illegal abortion, a crime which carries a sentence of up to ten years.

Chandler-Scott's case is similar to Brittany Watts, a 34-year-old Ohio woman who was charged with abuse of a corpse after miscarrying into her toilet at her home. A grand jury later refused to indict Watts.

So i guess the lesson is for you ladies is to simply stop being women in these states... yeahhh it sucks.

Like sir, your own country and the internal stuff going there is worse than the way they treat prisoners in prison. I don't think taxes and tariffs should be a necessity when America is practically rotting from inside because of basic lack of humanity and humane emotion and respect which is the bare minimum for any nation to exist.

Miscarriage is extremely traumatic for a woman. Especially if the lady wanted to be a mother. Instead of putting her in therapy and sympathizing with her condition, funding on her reproductive and mental health at bare minimum, she is tossed around just of this PATRIARCHAL and MISOGYNISTIC politics going around. Even a shepherd treats his herd better.

Those seem like main stream news or at least owned by one of the big conglomerates. they have largely and unfortunately bent the knee to trump and the oligrachs so you gotta go digging for the objective truth about whats really happening in our country. so i would stay away from most main stream news sources.

Nothing, it has always been a dream, never a reality. Like most wealthy countries, USA has a cultural influence around the world, in the sense of storytelling distributed to the whole planet, usually via fiction or wars. This American dream was just a possibility to be successful in materialistic pursuits, or should I say a duty to be successful, given how solidarity isn't part of their core philosophy, but individualism instead.

What they're setting up is this: anything that happens to a pregnant woman which doesn't result in a child birth will be "her fault", no matter what it is. Miscarriages will be blamed on a lack of responsible action, or negligence, or whatever they come up with.

Her attorney will argue that the fetus never took a breath, therefore was never a "person" because it was never alive. This is being done to scare the crap out of people, and it should scare the crap out of any normal, decent person. The improper disposal will be bounced around too.

I urge the good folks in Georgia to make sure Joh Ossoff stays your Senator and not MTG, heaven forbid, should she run against him.

Not an issue in Kansas but still one in neighboring Missouri. Fetal remains, whether through clinical abortion or miscarriage, are medical waste. I have though for religious reasons at the request of the mother buried fetal remains. The idea that authorities get involved in a matter like this is absurd.

umm i dont think thats an actual law there. and we are getting wayy into the weeds if we wanna argue of a miscarried fetus counts as a baby or not.

The main take away of this story is that even miscarriages can result in neighbors reporting you and you being arrested for it.

i don't think she had many options to dispose of it. it was probably a very traumatic experience for her so maybe she might not have been thinking too much of how best to do it.

and even given all of that you gotta admit arresting her for this on top of everything she's going through is just cruel beyond belief in my opinion.
