Does this fake president know what he's doing? Is that a serious question? Do you really need to ask? Look at the results. tRump is a lazy moron and criminal who has staffed his administration with spineless toadies who are also criminals.

He doesn't understand anything about economics. He's an imbecile. He's a bully. To him, tariffs look like something he can use to bully other nations, not an economic policy tool. He has no ability to envision the chain of events tariffs will set in motion. He doesn't care how much damage he does or who that damage affects. He couldn't see the natural response from other nations. His supporters actually believed him when he said China would pay the tariffs just like they believed him when he said Mexico was gonna pay for his wall.

As tariffs? No. It is idiocy. Has nothing to do with it. And will hurt USA more than anyone else.

As a means of fixing trade deficit? No. Shrinking your economy is not a very good way to fix it.

So why? If it was Trump himself making the plan it would make sense to just do something this dumb. But as hard as it is to believe there are some intelligent people in the government too, sometimes.

So what is the advantage for america in hurting its own country? Well, there is one single tangible advantage. Revitalization of lower end manufacturing in USA.

What is the advantage of this when you are a country focusing on higher end, more valuable, production? Self-sufficiency and ability to respond swiftly on your own.

Why would this matter to USA? War.
Today if USA attempted to go to war with any other major power it would swiftly crumble. An awkward fact for the arguably number one military power. Why? USA industry is not positioned to sustain USA military. An incredibly weak industry would see USA lose a war at the second or third exchange.

So if we assume that Trump and co are intellient, the only legitimate reason for this move is to harm USA and force it to increase its own base production at the cost of high-end production. This is only a good rebalancing if you consider engaging in war. So why is the stock plummeting?

A known gambler just announced he will harm his own country to be ready for war in a few years. Of course this would harm the stockmarket.

Did you check how much the market went down under Biden? Of course not. If you did you'd know that the stock market dropped under Biden FAR MORE than it has under Trump.

But realistically people need to stop paying attention to those indexes. I wish the media would stop posting that stuff daily. The market is too fickle to read anything into daily changes. The market overreacts to everything. Those daily changes mean nothing at all.

I've known a number of people who check stock prices every day, then freak out when their stock or mutual fund goes down. If they aren't in it for the long haul, they shouldn't be in it at all.

Those daily prices are not about the underlying value of the stock. They are just the market being fickle and reactionary.

yes they are intentionally bringing the market down some and to bring rates down. it's just started so hold on, it's a long ways down 30-40%. The market was very over valued due to the... you've seen it now... massive spending and debt creation. Pull out that $ and it goes down... everything. If didn't think there was a problem before Trump, see Berkshire Hathaway selling so much in stocks and a huge pile of cash. the stock market was BS. Trump and team has popped that bubble.

I gave faith when voted, hopefully they can reset it without a major disaster (economic, global, war, social uprising) and rebuild economy locally so we can work our way out of the financial mess. realize hope is not a plan and I make the smartest decisions I can and try to see reality as it is, even when I'm wrong at times.

If not, "the toilet" of DC will be flushed again and we'll go right back to where we were before, in this whip saw action between sides.

It would've been a lot worse if retail investors hadn't stepped in and started buying thinking they were buying the dip. Industrial investors have been selling for a few months and they didn't step in today meaning the markets will continue downwards until there's some good economic news.

For every seller there is a buyer. The only people that lost were the the hype-train momentum buyers/panic sellers that purchased overvalued stock and dumped it when they got scared. Stocks have intrinsic value. You make your money when you buy at the right price.
