I won't subscribe to ACAB, but I will say this which I've learned from experience...

1. A lot of people, especially males, have this need to be dominant or controlling. They want to be the ones to be feared or at least respected and thus safer. A lot of people - females and males but probably moreso males - become police for just this reason. It's a similar reason many people become politicians. Don't get me wrong - a lot of people to become cops or politicians for altruistic reasons - it's the only reason I'd enter politics - but there are a lot of them who are mentally defective a bit because they have that need to dominate or control and no better profession lets you do that than being a cop. On a tangent, it's one reason why some women become teachers - it is easier to dominate the young and feel safer among them than adults.

2. The only difference between the people on one side of the prison bars from those on the other side is whether they got caught... or had "protectors". Remember this: There's a guy from the US who in prison in El Salvador and wasn't convicted of anything anywhere, but sent there by our President who, ironically, has been convicted of a felony... 34 of them, in fact.

Let me put it to you like this...

If the wolf was given a choice of jobs between working a decent normal job versus being a shepherd, which job do you think the wolf is going to pick. Being a shepherd, of course, because it gets to be near its victims or, put another way, bathe in its instinctive desires.

Now, same sort of choice for a guy who gets off on being domineering: 1) decent well-paid normal job or 2) get a gun and safely and legally dominate or terrorize people as a cop, that guy is going to be a cop.

Look at Cartman. He's the perfect example... Conservative pathological douche who enjoys making other people's lives difficult.
