The Logan Act is a U. S. federal law that criminalizes the negotiation of a dispute between the United States and a foreign government by an unauthorized American citizen. It bars U. S. citizens from engaging in communications with foreign governments without authority of the United States. Chris Van Hollen has no such authority. Any questions, whiners?

Also, Passports can be revoked or denied for specific statutory reasons, such as fraud, certain criminal convictions, or unpaid child support, but not by blanket presidential order. Only the sexy of state has this statutorily limited power.

The Logan Act does prevent unauthorized negotiations with foreign countries, which is what Sen Van Hollen did in meeting with officials in El Salvador without permission. Actions have consequences.

They are government officials who can legally go to another country to discuss foreign affairs. Trump is trying to revoke their passports over them doing something that is completely legal. If you want to live in a dictatorship where Trump can do whatever he wants then go with him to another country. If not shut the hell up and stop trying to justify his actions.
