Does Everyone Understand Why There's So Much Support For Hamas?

If you're like me, you've probably been wondering how on earth Hamas has gotten such tremendous support from the powers that be, despite being the aggressor.

Now, why is this? If you answered, 'Because Hamas is in the right and Israel's wrong', you gave an incorrect answer. No, who supports what side almost never has anything to do with right or wrong these days. Instead, support is predicated on how large a voting bloc they represent. In this case, Jews are only around 2% of the population.

Sadly, we have been reminded yet again of the damage that can be incited by inflammatory rhetoric, with the murder of the young couple in D. C.

I understand exactly why it's happening. Even though I thoroughly detest Hamas. People are basically supporting Hamas for 2 reasons.

1. They have very correctly observed that the Zionists used British imperialism to steal the Palestinians land and homes, and have since been profoundly abusive to the (largely innocent) Palestinian population. In their minds, this calls the legitimacy of the Israeli state into question. Oppressed versus oppressor

2. Hamas represents the Islamic interest in the conflict. For a whole lot of people, this is as far as it goes. They think I'm a Muslim, they're Muslims; I support Muslims. Most of these types of people simply don't believe that reports of Hamas' conduct are real. They think it's fake.

Nobody should suport Israel. Nobody does support Hamas. People support the 5 million innocent Palestinian civilians, whose lives are being destroyed. Over 11,000 children have been killed in Gaza, including over 3000 under the age of 5. Kindergarteners are not members of Hamas.

@Pterodon That's an odd thing for an American to say. I seem to remember Americans getting quite upset after 9/11. It's like you think the US was the innocent victim of a completely unprovoked attack.
Maybe we should've just said "Fuck America. They voted for a government that interfered in Middle Eastern affairs which didn't concern them, sanctioning Iraq, and supporting Israel and other countries who sought to oppress Muslims in Somalia, Kashmir and Chechnya" (which applies equally to both Democrats and Republicans, by the way).
Even now, you can hardly say Trump represents all Americans.

@Pterodon No, they didn't. Less than 2/3 of the electorate voted, and of those, slightly less than half voted for Trump. And of course, children aren't even eligible to vote, but they still suffer the consequeunces - just like the 11,000+ children who have been killed in Gaza. If you do the maths, about 22% of Americans actually voted for Trump.
