I have my own unlikely theory about this, its probably wrong but I find it interesting.

Europe used to have Lions. Tigers. Hyenas. More. Bigger, scarier versions than their African counterparts. In Europe a cave hyena was the size of a modern lion, a cave lion the size of a modern tiger, and the tigers larger than any similar predator alive.

Where Africa learned to coexist Europe did not. The Cave Hyenas especially hunted humans enmasse. The little archeological findings we have show a history of outright interspecies warfare.

So this is the cradle of the european continent. Not coexistence or a tenous respect, but outright eat them or be eaten. Well, Europeans ate them. The hyenas, the lions, the tigers, the elephants, anything venomous or dangerous. Killed. Transforming the arguably most dangerous continent to the arguably safest.

But many thousands of years of murder them or die leaves a mark. My simple not-really-a-theory theory ends here! That mark is an increased inclination to compete and resolve violence with far worse.

On a more realistic note? It was just a hotbed of many rulers and unlike similar situations, like ancient China, was never united. Not nearly as interesting a reason but probably more true.

Fuck the Jesus bullshit. Europe was the crucible of the western world. Empire after empire have risen and fallen there for 3,000 years.

Wars and conquest became part of the culture. When Europeans started to spread out across other continents, they brought that culture with them. There’s nothing surprising in that.

They wanted what other people had. They were more advanced militarily and technologically. So they simply slaughtered people and took what they wanted. Just another day at the office for their cultures.

It is interesting that you call Christian to come defend actions that you site from the Old Testament. I think you need to call Hebrews to defend their actions. And here again the violence you site from the bible did not happen in Europe. Catholicism did become violent when they started the believe or die tactics. That affected my family in 1547 resulting in our departure from France. The real problem is the willingness of the general population to follow mad men.

they would be today but america, russia and china are too strong now. in world war 1 and before, these big powers didn't usually take part in the small scale wars within Europe. but since they do, europeans have figured it's not gonna work out if they try. it's not that they're more peacefull these days. it's just that they know they can't do shit.
