Enter President Trump’s bold move to reopen Alcatraz, as a high-security federal prison for the nation's most violent offenders, as it's intended to be. As everyone knows, if you try to escape from Alcatrez, you will probably drown and get eaten by sharks.

For years, the liberals have championed soft-on-crime policies that have decimated communities and emboldened criminals. They've turned high-security prisons into amusement parks for God's sake.

So while the woke mob quakes at the idea of accountability, America can rest easy knowing President Trump is ready to restore respect for the rule of law.

Alcatraz was deteriorating beyond it's function in the 60s, which is why it was closed down in 1963.. The buildings would need to be completely torn down and replaced at great expense. It would be much more economical to build a new prison elsewhere.

Alcatraz was of its time, but it's completely obsolete today, except as a museum. My buddy spent 2.5 years being the night guard there. He would take the last boat in and would be stuck there alone until the first boat the next day. He is a retired combat Marine, and now does executive security. He's told me plenty of first hand stories of things crumbling and falling apart there.

You're not entirely right. Alcatraz was mostly effective. At stopping criminals from escaping. Not as effective as supermax prison we have here when nobody has actually gotten out, but mostly. A part of its success is that it wasn't easy to get off the island. Yet because it was an island that wasn't easy to get off, it also wasn't easy to get to. Everything had to be delivered, which was expensive. To reopen and run Alcatraz for a year we'd spend over double whst DOGE claimed to have saved (and their claims are far beyond the actual amount). So we are essentially jettisoning $ to pay for a prison that will not be better than our supermax prisons because Trump thinks it looks cool. Probably why we're soend a lot of $ to have a military parade on his birthday. His is one of the most emotionally insecure snowflakes I have ever seen.

@Twalli This is what I have been saying. Its a failure as a prison because its location made it uneconomical and a pain in the ass for logistics and even maintenance. Its just about one of the dumbest places you can put a prison. The escape risk is not really a concern, considering how rare it is and how there are better ways to handle it so trying to defend Alcatraz on that basis is missing the point.
