So why are they offering each illegal immigrant that self-deports $1,000? On top of that, he wants to restore Alcatraz to use for housing the worst criminals instead of shipping them to San Salvador. Right now Alcatraz is a big tourist draw making San Francisco a ton of money. Instead of restoring it they should just tear it down and build a new prison. However, there are lots of places to build a prison on the mainland, without the additional cost to bring everything up to code. This is one of Trump's dumbest stunt yet.

$1000 to self-deport + covering cost of a flight is MUCH cheaper than deploying federal law enforcement to forcefully do it. Every individual who takes that offer is only saving money.

Refurbishing and reopening Alcatraz is more questionable, but it's probably cheaper than building a completely new facility, at least in the short term. San Fran is not making much money from tourism anymore thanks to its idiotic city and state government. Furthermore, this isn't the only prison that is being restored, but it's the most famous due to being a landmark. The bigger problem Alcatraz would face is operating costs, which is why it got shut down in the first place.

If you want to trash the administration for wasting money, you should instead scrutinize Congress and the fact that they're basically going to ignore almost all of the DOGE cuts (which is based entirely on fraud at this point, not even waste yet), and are just rearranging where the same amount of unacceptable spending is going. Congress controls the purse, the president and his cabinet can only decide (to some extent) how to use the funds their departments are given. This is an issue that neither party has taken seriously, regardless of rhetoric.

It costs $50,000 per illegal alien per year just leaving them alone. It costs between $80,000 and $100,000 a year to incarcerate somebody. If they need to be locked up while they wait for a trial and then an appeal it will take at least a year. A plane ticket and a thousand dollars is a bargain.

How is giving $1,000 to people who self-deport wasting money? It costs tens of thousands of dollars for U. S. authorities to deport someone. They're saving millions of dollars by doing this.

As far as Alcatraz, immature and unintelligent Trump-deranged people still don't realize he makes outrageous statements to draw attention to an issue, and then uses it as a negotiating point. He said he was going to put high tariffs on countries that had been taking advantage of the United States in trade relationships. When the countries didn't budge, he did put the tariffs on them. Now they've all negotiated fair deals with the U. S., or are in the process of negotiating. That means prices will come down, regular taxes will go down, and many more jobs will be created.

Try studying the details of something before you mouth off about it unknowing.

It costs ICE more than $1000 to deport one illegal. Giving an illegal $1000 to self-deport is cheaper. Alcatraz is intended for violent criminals, including citizens, not just illegals.
