If you're old enough, you know this shit between India and Pakistan often happens. It reminds me of this important scene in "The Godfather". Clemenza is giving Michael advice about the assassinations Michael is about to commit that will lead to a war among the "Five Families" of the New York Mafia.
Michael: How bad do you think it's gonna be?
Clemenza: Pretty goddam bad. Probably all the other Families will line up against us. That's all right. These things gotta happen every five years or so, ten years. Helps to get rid of the bad blood. Been ten years since the last one. You know, you gotta stop them at the beginning. Like they should have stopped Hitler at Munich, they should never let him get away with that, they was just asking for trouble.
Clemenza's comment about Hitler reminds me how this fucking situation started.
In 1947-48, when the post-war UK got rid of their possessions, they did it too fast not giving a shit about the people they were leaving. Instead of taking time to make very specific borders and recognizing the ethnicities and religions involved before doing so, they "just got the Hell out of Dodge" leaving unresolved issues between the new nations of Pakistan and India. And they never were resolved which is why they still fight to varying degrees in the almost 80 years since.
I am not too concerned. As Clemenza said: "That's all right. These things gotta happen every five years or so, ten years. Helps to get rid of the bad blood."
First of all, there has been a lot of recent wars between India and Pakistan so that is actually not the end of the world, even if they both got nuclear bombs. Its obviously one step closer to a nuclear war or WW3 but that is still not very likely.. YET.. There is a big jump from a war between those two countries in particular and nukes flying.
So the current situation is basically this. The Indian government is weak so both can't back down easily and also could use the conflict to become popular again. Not entirely sure about the Pakistani government but honestly they sound a bit more competent as of right now AKA its harder to get a read on what they are thinking. They have both struck each other and hit some delicate targets such as religious buildings but at the same time India in particular has lost A LOT of incredibly valuable aircraft in the attack so I dont think they are super confident in just jumping into war.
It sounds like there are still room for diplomacy at this point but even if they jump into war then it will probably be a conventional war and limited to the region of Kashmir. For the conflict to escalate much beyond that requires a lot of things to go wrong on both sides simultaneously. Its possible, just not very likely.

Uhhhhh it started several days ago. The point of no return was when modi said he was cutting off the water. They've been killing each other for 3 days now.
No. There will not be a war.
The problem is with India trying to flex muscles it doesn't have. Trump has told India to fuck off, if it wants support.
But China is backing Pakistan.
There is one now. Biggest aerial dogfight since WW2 last night. I think it is likely to go nuclear and conform to Muslim rules of war. The only thing impeding it is Mutually Assured Destruction.
My friend from work is from South Asia so I hope they do not go to war.
No but China can play a HELLUVA spoiler here.
The war has already begun and will escalate towards Mutually Assured Deatruction.
how can you tell?
Both countries are politically unstable. The global economy is exasperating that with the global trade war and decline of America. Middle East tensions are also a part of this. But it seems to me like a fight to the death war between India and Pakistan is inevitable. The two will always hate each other. If it goes nuclear it will be because India, being the larger power is decisively winning. In an act of desperation, Pakistan will launch nuclear strikes as a last resort.
wouldn’t that effect most parts of the world?
Indians and Pakistani do hate each other, maybe not at the same level, but there's hatred.
someone is late to the party
Sure. Again.
Don't care.
