What Is Your Opinion On Donald Trump Pardoning Todd and Julie Chrisley?

On March 28, 2025, President Donald Trump pardoned reality stars and real estate moguls Todd and Julie Chrisley, and the internet is having mixed reactions towards the president's decision to pardon the couple who were convicted of conspiracy to defraud banks, fraud, and tax evasion. The couple were later found guilty of submitting false financial documents to secure loans from the Atlanta-area banks, ultimately defrauding them out of over $30 million. The also hidden their income from their reality TV show, Chrisley Knows Best, to avoid paying approximately $500,000 in taxes. The couple would spend on luxury cars, real estate, and clothing, while using new fraudulent loans to repay older ones. In November 2022, the couple were sentenced to prison terms of 12 (Todd) and 7 (Julie) years. The couple were found guilty of 8 counts of financial fraud, 2 counts of tax evasion, submitted false bank statements, audit reports, and personal financial statements to obtain the loans. Todd and Julie's daughter, Savannah Chrisley, has used her fame to fight for her parents' release. She has billed herself as an advocate for prison reform, and did speak at the 2024 Republican National Convention. “When I saw obviously what the president was going through, what my family has gone through, it was eerily similar,” Chrisley said. “And I knew I just had to speak up. And that’s why I chose to speak at the RNC.” Trump announced Tuesday by the White House, is the latest instance of him using his clemency power to settle grievances over what he calls political weaponization of the justice system. Trump made a statement towards Savannah saying, "Your parents are going to be free and clean, I don't know them but give them my regards and wish them good luck." Trump has received mixed reviews due to his decision to pardon the Chrisley's with some being "appalled" by Trump's decision and saying the president, "needs to stop pardoning criminals."

What I really want to know (and I still need to learn more about the whole situation, in fairness) is if the people cheering this on are as enthused about notorious gang leader Larry Hoover being federally pardoned. Hoover terrorized the city of…. wait for it —Chicago, aka ”cHiCaGo😱😩😤🫠” in right wing circles— all through the late 60s-early 70s, drug trafficking, murders in service of that, all the scary big city environment stuff that people who mostly live 3+ hours away from can’t shut up about.

Clearly this seems to be a deviation from the usual formula of “be MAGA —> commit and be held accountable for crimes —> get pardoned by Trump under the guise of saying you being held to accountability was just a targeted anti-MAGA weaponization of justice.” All I can think of is that this is some way of countering the obviously-but-still-thinly- cloaked anti-black agenda of MAGA, and Trump & Co can claim that he loves “the blacks”, while simultaneously attacking everything anti-discrimination that rightfully and necessarily existed🤦‍♂️

Meanwhile Hoover remains in state custody now, serving hundreds of years, but eligible for parole. Unless there’s something I’m unaware of, I don’t know that there’s any real cause to parole him. I’m not a huge fan of incarceration, this doesn’t necessarily have anything to do with my feelings on anything. I’m just saying that I’m sure all the “do the crime, do the time”, “lock ‘em up and throw away the key” people will still somehow mentally pretzel their brains into making that make sense to themselves🤦‍♂️🙄🤣

My fault, Trump commuted the federal sentence, not technically a pardon, but in the sense of freeing him from federal custody, a colloquial “pardon.”

These people were found guilty by their fellow American jurors who look past the reality TV stardom and limelight to judge on the basis of the case by weighing statements, facts, analysis, and more from prosecution and the defense teams. With that case, these average Americans decided they were guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

Do you think it is fair for a fellow reality TV star to weigh the case after the fact when the jurors of normal Americans decided they were guilty beyond a reasonable doubt?
Would I think a fellow convicted felon would understand that some people aren’t above the law and each case has to be carefully looked at, not just based on a TV interview from Fox News?(or any news network)

Donald J Trump is a corrupt son of a bitch, I liked when he pardoned those affected by Joe Biden’s policies (marijuana drug dealing / possession) though this particular set of pardons is unwarranted, unjustified, and wrong.

in terms of reducing prison population of non dangerous people, it's ok. i don't like paying $ to house people. But they should pay us all back for the cost of holding them to the standards of everyone else and getting caught. get out of jail free card is not right.

Its not about what you do, but about whom you know. probably many more worthy of release over them. Same was true with biden and priors... gotta get the ear of the leader.

Obviously i don’t have all of the facts, but i’m fairly certain that there are more deserving individuals who would benefit from a pardon. Or, perhaps, if conservatives want to remain associated with law and order, don’t pardon criminals at all.
