Landlords charging 3 and 4 times the rent... The average American isn't making 3 or 4 times the rent less more making enough to sustain stability for rent, food etc.. I know someone working 3 jobs just to pay rent...

Some are, some aren't, typically the issue with rent increases is government regulation and taxes. Any time the government cracks down on a rental property and demands some new "eco friendly" toilet or new anything that costs a lot of money. When ever some commie increases taxes on the "dirty capitalist exploiter" who owns the rental property, that cost also goes right back into your rent payment.

I know plenty of landlords, cash buyers so they don't need to charge the same way
Honestly just ban non-cash buyers from buying rental properties and you'd lose the slum landlords and a good chunk of greed overnight

The American free market system allows people to charge whatever the market will bear/ The landlords are probably not making as much money as people think. Their taxes have gone up and so has utilities and maintenance.

I am all for rent control and the properties I own I only increase it when a tenant leaves. It seldom happens and I keep my tenants sweet with Christmas "bonus" and moving in treats.

I guess I'm middle class but I've never thought of myself in terms of class, I don't like the idea of different classes. If anything upper class would be an insult to me because so many are shut off in their bubbles and are snobbish in my opinion
