How do you keep hope alive?

I believe that liberal democracies will rise with a renewed strenght from the ashes of the far-right, conservative and just plain fascist regimes that are currently threatening humanity's freedom and its right to democracy.

Personally, I like to remind myself that fascism never was and never will be a long term plan. Historically, it's always been a relatively short (but intense) burst of anger from the dying conservative ideals.

trumpism, putinism and the far-right will eventually crawl back deep into the filthy sewer from which it came.

There is no doubt about it.

The problem however, is always the tragic matter of: "how many people will die?", "how many lives ruined?", "how long will it take to repair the damages done?"

America has no forethought. It doesn't raise it's youth to be like that. They worry only when shit hits the fan. This has allowed what has come to be.

How America reacts when they realize "Holy... trump really is that selfish and unpatriotic, to the extreme." is going to be very different from how the rest of the world who survived wars and actually learned the harsh lessons history has taught.

America is a babe in the wood. Hope is for the desperate or bedtime stories. Americans need to stand up create their own life raft if it isn't already too late.

1.) Governments are corrupted by the rich & powerful greedy few who always want "more".

2.) The people eventually revolt and drag the rich from their mansions and kill them.

4.) The cycle begins again with a new generation of greedy assholes who want "more".

@OneViewpoint Indeed, but that cycle usually takes a very long period of time and it often brings profound changes within society and the way we live. Even though the disapointment about human nature is more than understandable here, I think that it's kind of limiting to see all of it, cynically, as a mere, pointless vicious circle. Greatness may sometimes be the byproduct of our collective stupidity.

The USA was born as a schism between ideals like freedom and government of the people by the people for the people and ideals that said it was virtuous to enslave other people to make money, rape them, and sell their children. That has never changed. It took 150 years for women to get the right to vote. It took 190 years to (sort of) make progress any real progress on segregation and institutionalized racism.

We've battled an unofficial aristocracy of wealthy landed gentry from the beginning for control of the wealth we generated. We had to fight Robber Barons who exploited waves of new immigrants in the industrial age. And here we are again, fighting Oligarchs who have infiltrated government with dark money they gained mostly by bribing politicians while they hide in the shadows behind the Heritage Foundation, the Federalist Society, ALEC, and other entities that keep the public from seeing who is actually pulling the strings.
Call me cynical but from what I can see this shit never stops. Kill one generation of scum and they will only be replaced by the next generation of scum. Because the scum is much more driven by greed and personal interests than the average person. But the scum can eventually be eradicated by the average people only because of the weight of sheer numbers and physical force. That's the only check and balance on power. At the end of the day the rich need the rest of us more than we need them and we can simply erase them from society and start over. When we have nothing left to lose. It's not wonderful but, that's the world we live in.

And FYI, me and that girl were only 4 years apart in age at that time. That was in 2016. I was 20; she was 16 almost 17.

@Shiprex 12 isn't the typical age to date anyways. At 16/17, you are usually more sexually aware, can drive a car or other vehicle alone, can work, etc... In this case, she drove a car to meet me and was working. We were only 4 years apart in age, and it was consensual.

This girl I was with was entering her senior year of high school and was of age of consent. Of course, this happened nearly 10 years ago when I was a young man myself.
