I don’t think “happy” is an appropriate term for honoring the day and celebrating what we have achieved since then. But it’s not for me to decide how other people honor and celebrate holidays.
It’s enough that i correct people who refer to “the fourth of July” instead of Independence day.
Ignorance offends me, and i’m not easily offended.

i wouldn't. I wished someone a happy Independence Day on the 4th of July last year, and was verbally attacked because "not for black people in Texas it isn't". these people are insane and it's best to just go about your day.
