Yes, let's make a national holiday for the black community. Because a whole month dedicated to the history of the achievements and hardships of the blank community wasn't enough. Having a black president wasn't enough. Celebrating Martin Luther King Jr isn't enough. During this whole George Floyd ordeal they want to try and get a holiday for a drug sing convicted felon. How far we have fallen when we conspire to replace an icon with a convicted felon. It is like no one cares what that person represented they just want to bank whomever is getting the most attention. The majority of the althetes that are dominating sports are black. All the successful black Americans that made it into space and even flow the space shuttle. The first time that man made it into space was because of a black lady computer analyst that refused to be held back for two reasons, she was a woman and she was black. Why isn't January 1st a holiday? That is when white president Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation to free all the slaves in 1863 during a war. I bet that more than half the black Americans I could approach on the street could tell me the date it was signed. I would bet my life on it. Everyone just wants to jump on the band wagon and support all the prejudice and unfairness that all black people have endured. Can anyone tell me the name of the black lady that got the first man into space WITHOUT using Google? Probably not. That was a story that my son had to learn in school and he found it fascinating. That made me happy because we aren't black. We are barely white. I teach my kids that we don't see skin color, we see a person of character. I judge a person on who they are not where they came from. I think and feel that it is highly unfair for a person or peoples to be judged because of the color of their skin. They didn't ask to be born a certain color and didn't do not deserve to be judged or mistreated just on that fact. People aren't teaching the younger generations about the good because they are too focused on the bad. White people see a black person walking down the sidewalk and labeled as a drug dealer. Black people see a white person driving a nice (not expensive) car and assume the are a stuck racist. All people see Hispanic people and think they are stealing jobs from the American people. There are always two sides to everything in life, people just have to be willing to listen. I grew up with a lot of black friends and to this day I still have great friends that are black. I would do anything for them and I would die to save their life but not because they are black. Because they are my friends. I support the gay community as well and one of my best friends is a black lesbian and she is like family to me. This whole world is unfair even when it doesn't come to skin color. The rich regardless of skin color hate all poor people. They think they deserve better treatment because they have money which is a crook of shit because they are the worst kind of people. Jeff Bezos (CEO of Amazon) is building one of the most massive yachts thanks to all the money he makes of his hard workers and the customers. Do think that the hard workers that are killing themselves to just make a living will ever step foot on that yacht? All the people that are responsible for him being so rich that he gets to live a better life then any of them can dream about. I bet he didn't even know how many people are actually employed by his company.
Congrats on the new national holiday!!

I'm very proud of Biden for this. He wasn't exactly holding up, but this and the vaccines are a step forward. This shows how we blacks in America are more free than we've ever been.
And the best part: Everyone who has a problem with this is crying us rivers to boat in.
> White people had thier america for hundreds of years. It’s our turn now. <

@big-black-robinson
And what do you plan to do with it? You're more white in culture and ethnicity than you are black. You know jackshit about ethnic food, culture, religion from Africa.
Unless Jamaican or Haitian or one of the Islanders that the normal of African Americans. Unless your parents are from Africa you know little.
Average African American only thing African is the skin / complexion. Everything else is predominantly white.
27 guys voted no? Lmao gotta love seeing snowflakes getting all worked up

Voted "No," but it is really stark indifference. It is a holiday targeted at specific groups and my hunch is that you could not swing a dead cat in a crowded city and hit anyone who was not already an activist who would care one way or the other.
The analogy is to my Jewish relatives. They celebrate the Passover and Hanukkah and the like. If they invite me to such a celebration I attend. However, day to day, it is not a part of my life. I do not begrudge it to them and wish them the very best, but it is not in any sense meaningful to me.
Ditto Juneteen, albeit that the "holiday" is not about when the Emancipation Proclamation was issued, but when the slaves learned about it. It is kind of about reporting rumors accurately and one gets the sense that it is more about current sensibilities than it is about historical events.
Indeed, the African-American community now has two Federal holidays to its credit. The other being Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday - which was signed into law by President Reagan back in the 1980s. Unfortunately, Dr. King's "judged by the content of your character and not the color of your skin" theme is now hopelessly out of fashion among the activist community and therefore the need for Juneteen.
The last arrow in the quiver being the eventual abolition of Columbus Day. Italian-Americans, not having a strong politically correct activist community behind them, will be left to take the hindmost.
The point being that this is less about a historical event than about the current passion for moral exhibitionism and right thinking. It will come and go, as Martin Luther King Day now comes and goes, and will be used less to honor the past than to advance the agendas of the moment.
For my part, all it means is that I won't have to go out to get the mail that day. That's one last day to get my bills. Good enough for government work - or not.- u
Being black is enough qualification for being president? You don' really want a system that is blind to your color?
So I read that the former United States is so desperate economically desperate that they have allegedly sent several containers filled with wheat and tobacco. A gesture, they said, of good will. You wanna know what I think? Well, you're reading my opinion, so I will assume you do... I think it's high time we let the colonies know what we really think of them. I think its payback time for a little tea party they threw for us a few hundred years ago. I say we go down to those docks tonight and dump that crap where everything from the Ulcered Sphincter of Arse-erica belongs! Who's with me? Who's bloody with me?
Did you like that? USA... Ulcered Sphincter of Arse-erica, I mean what else can you say? Here was a country that had everything, absolutely everything. And now, 60 years later, is what? The world's biggest leper colony. Why? Godlessness multiculturalism. Let me say that again... multiculturalism. It wasn't the war they started. It wasn't the plague they created. It was Judgement. No one escapes their past. No one escapes Judgement. You think he's not up there? You think he's not watching over this country? How else can you explain it? He tested us, but we came through. We did what we had to do. Islington. Enfield. I was there, I saw it all. Immigrants, M*slims, h*mosexuals, t*rrorists. Disease-ridden degenerates. They had to go. Strength through unity. Unity through faith. I'm a God-fearing cracker and I'm goddamn proud of it!Do I get a paid day off from work?
No?
Then I couldn't care less.
The Civil War ended in 1865.
That was over 150 years ago.
I know a good chunk of today's eternally offended and their own country hating sort love to just bemoan, over and over and over history from 200-300 years ago and to be outraged about everything.
The truth is, many from all over the world would LOVE to move here.
150 years ago there was no air conditioning, no refrigerators, no freezers, no indoor plumbing, no running water and no grocery store to pop into 24/7 to pick up anything they needed, there were no government food stamps, there were no welfare checks, there were no government housing areas there were no cars to take you 300 miles away in a few hours if you wanted.
If people live in the USA, free school all the way through high school, many affordable colleges to go to, cell phones, their own car, welfare, unemployment, food stamps if they aren't working, air conditioning everywhere, their own cell phone... etc. aren't lucky and were upset before because the calendar didn't list some holiday then they will be forever miserable and there is nothing you can do.
My life before and after this holiday hasn't changed a bit. I don't care if you remove Lincoln and Washington's birthdays, Presidents Day, MLK day, Juneteenth from the calendar. I don't care. Unless I get the day off paid from work then it means nothing to me.
I've studied the Civil War and I learned of the Emancipation Declaration years ago through school and my own readings. Some blip on a calendar is irrelevant to me.Honestly I thought black people didn't care about that, they just say oh were still basically slaves now (arguably because if you celebrated the end of slavery you might have to thank the hundreds of thousands of white men in blue who died for your freedom). As for black people in other places, is "Black Panther" not enough for you and the fact that they actually made Eric Killmonger a sympathetic villan instead of somebody just as bad as a white supremacist. Is it not enough that now Native American reservations are allowed to put disenfranchised non-natives on trial because of Obama (but the rights of their former black slaves are protected, whereas those of their white captive descendants are not.) Is it not enough for you that Black Lives Matter is shouted in the streets and white lives matter is decried as racist. You say that white lives are not in danger, but I tell you that white people are murdered by black people and white women are enslaved by black pimps. Even if the culprits end up in jail which they often don't, news flash it doesn't undo the crime. It is time for black people to start appreciating how much this country has given them. Slaves or not you have received great benefits from living here.
I'm neither happy nor sad about it.
I'm laughing that the people of 1619 bullshit got a pointless holyday (as holydays tend to be as lovable as they are) which is a direct offense against their bullshit ideology instead of the student loan forgiveness they demanded.
You don't need a holyday to celebrate the end of slavery, just employ someone or provide a paid service and that's celebration enough.
Also, actually studying it and trying to curb slavery globally. But it's a lovable holyday, as they tend to be.
I'm brazilian, we have a holyday for the abolition of slavery, it didn't stop our ex president from going behind the curtains, selling off natural resources in our most crucial biome for pennies that were later discovered to employ slave labor.
We have even a song on how our whorish princess (all our monarchs were massive sluts, some were also deadbeats with no sense of poise and rationality to close the goddamn door) loved BBCs, smoked a joint and abolished slavery.- s
I'm not from the US but I'm happy too see that Juneteenth is now an official holiday in the United States.
I do believe that it's time for black Americans to have more rights and a country that appreciates and respects them.
Unfortunately I'm not surprised to see that GAG racist white users voted "NO". no because the Holiday is predicated on me feeling like a victim. I dont even know what its like to be a slave, so why should I feel happy? My ancestors came from Zambia to the US of their own accord. Just because my skin is dark doesn't warrant for me to feel emotional about the past. Slavery is not synonymous with racism, people get it confused all the time. Just because they worked for plantation owners doesn't mean their owners hated them because of their skin color, some slave owners procreated with their slaves. The opposite of hate
Slavery has not ended in the US. Things like the illegal sex industry and the illegal drug industry are still deeply involved in slivery in the US and outside of it. I'm glad to see Juneteenth become it is a step forward, if only a small one. It's lost past time that people accept that people of all races and [insert group here] are keeping slivery going. It's time to stop looking at it as nothing but a Human issue. Because like many issues us looking at is through group filters guarantees that it will never be solved.
I mean im not American but i believe black people should have more opportunities and more to say in US since technically the native American used to own US not the Whites, if it's a holiday to celebrate the end of slavery then whatever black people want
WOW ok I do dislike it when people try to make something from something that already exist. We don't need a black batman, we need a new character that isn't a repeat from some other character. We had a black president. That in it's self is impressive. We have a black vice president who is a women which is nice. As for Juneteenth, I am indifferent to it. I am sorry for the lives that were lost and the people that are still alive, I hope they find happiness and peace. Honestly I feel better if people were more focus on the community and the fact that so many young black people are in prison with felons on their record. If we could change that and make black people less scary to the public along with helping them get a good job and a education. That be very awesome and worth the effort.
I think there should have been a holiday like this years ago. I'm not sure if this was the very most significant date to commemorate though. Slave Emancipation Day would also have been a good choice as well as Civil Rights Day (to commemorate the civil rights act of 1964). But I don't like the name of this holiday. I think something like "Freedom Day" has a nicer ring to it. And while MLK Day was always a good idea, I view this as more significant.
The only thing i believe in is freedom, liberty, freedom from coercion and force.
I dont really care about the holiday. in my opinion black people need liberty and freedom just like everyone else does.
The holiday doesn't do shit for anyone. It's just some touchy feely heart shit. It doesn't actually help black people at all.I don't give a fuck because it's not like a goddamn holiday like that one is going ti fix any personal problems that go on in my life.
Yep, I'm a back dude that doesn't give a fuck about Juneteenth, and no I'm not racist so slow your fucking roll.
Bite me.Sure, but because ending slavery was a great moment in American history and not to pander to any group or groups of people. I, of course, think that slavery is a terrible act and was a very dark moment in history, but celebration of the past should be in remembrance and not blame or justification.
So Democrats created a national holiday to remind Blacks that they were slaves, commemorate Republicans freeing the slaves, and Democrats creating Jim Crow laws and founding of the KKK… Black people are in the street celebrating that? That shit is funny… Yet the BLM tried to tear down the Emancipation Memorial. Some strange shit. I guess Black people enjoyed slavery, segregation, and the murderous rampage of the KKK. Go figure, all these years I figured that shit was bad.
It is sort of a holiday for white people, too. Slavery was ended several weeks before juneteenth (or was it years?) Juneteenth is the day white men in Texas (I think) finally got around to telling the slaves they were free. So it's sort of also a celebration of lazy white men finally accepting that they have to do their own work.
The ancient Romans had 100s of holidays each year so I think we can manage having less than a dozen. If we can't we must be pretty pathetic at organizing work. But everything has to be left vs right politics these days so people often take one side or the other. I don't.
It's telling that your priorities are as you described rather than improving the well-being and standard of living of everyone in your country. And tell me why America "should be yours" when you comprise 14% of the population? Why should whites, Hispanics, Asians and others who aren't black live under the rule of black supremacists?
To be very frank, I don't care either way. I'm not American. But good for you if you got something you wanted and something you think is important.
