HECK YEAH WE SOMETIMES LIE! i lie bc "i don't want to" seems offensive. people hate my apathetic side. i lie to get money sometimes, especially to people who are stingy about money. i lie much less often to my best friend and my brother, bc ik these dudes can handle ANYTHING. and i mean it!

I don't think I lie THAT often if I recall correctly, but a common reason for me would be to "get rid of" someone I don't like.

Like if a person I don't like invites me to their party or whatever, I'll be like "sure, I'll go" to just never show up at all. 💀 And if they ask why I didn't come I'll just make up some generic excuse like "I was feeling sick that day." 🤢🤮

Also, this one is so normal, common, and non-malicious it doesn't even count, but when a stranger or acquaintance you barely know asks "how are you," and I just say something like "I'm doing okay" regardless of how bad I'm actually feeling, cuz I don't wanna tell my life story to a fucking stranger. ☠️

I also won't feel guilty though about lying to someone who's already lied to me. If they lied to me I feel the right I have the right to lie to them back. Make them THINK that I believe them, only to fuck with them and make up more lies to get back at them.

The times I've lied, it's usually been in an effort to prevent needless pain, or even to prevent something that I consider more damaging from happening, that doesn't need to happen. So think of a situation where if my buddy and his ex wife just got divorced and I saw her running around town with a new guy right away. I might tell him that I haven't seen her around, rather telling him that she might be seeing a new guy.

Or when my girlfriend asked me to tell her the things someone else told me when we spoke about my girlfriend before we were together. She wanted details that would have permanently destroyed the trust between my girlfriend and friend. So, I kept my explanations vague and made it seem like our friend told me less than the friend really did.

I lie to either protect someone's feelings from getting hurt or because I don't want my true feelings to be known to someone because they may not take it well. Maybe that's the same thing. Oh well. Point is. I lie to save feelings from being hurt or the person not responding well to the truth of how I feel about them. But sooner or later it always comes out.

lying is one of those things where in general its wrong but in some cases is the right thing to do if it leads to preventing someones death or sickness or injury or preventing the objectively worst outcomes from happening. So in a consequential sense it can sometimes be-not good- but right to do.

in general though we should always strive to be as honest as we can.

Mostly when it's just to joke around with friends. Otherwise if it's something serious, it's usually to avoid an extreme reaction from someone, like if being honest in that very moment might cause someone to be harmful to themselves or to others.
