I would assume many things. Pardons have been handed out like candy, as have threats. My favourite is the threat to utterly ruin anyone's life who leaks Trump's academic records.

That said, I wouldn't really put it past a person in Epstein's position to lie or hint at things that are not true.

As you know, the part of the 5th amendment we're talking here is this: " ... nor shall (a person) be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself." The obvious and invariably correct conclusion when someone pleads the 5th is that answering the question, as asked, would result in self-incriminate.

The logical assumption is that once the door was opened by answering any questions about Trump, Epstein's association and knowledge or participation in any activities would expose himself.
