Has social media become more negative recently?

Race wars, liberals vs republicans, gender wars, literal wars. Why has social media become so negative recently? I know negativity sparks higher emotions in people than positivity, but all of a sudden people are so upset and angry. It is our economic climate? politics? the wars between countries recently? Even tiktok, which i considered to be the “safe” social media app, has become extremely toxic. Am i just being over dramatic or do you guys notice it too?

Look at what's going on around you. The USA is a divided country. It has always been a divided country. But we are at a peak we haven't seen since the Civil; Rights movement of the 1960's or the Civil War of the 1860's. The Southern Confederate sympathizers, White Supremacists, and Jesus Freaks have been told it's OK to slither out from under the rocks they live under. They aren't quiet about their hate these days. But they aren't finding a welcome online outside their 4Chan echo chamber. Hence the mutual hate you are seeing. We are at the tipping point that may mean another Civil War to determine if the USA and the Constitution survives or we become just another fascist footnote in history.
