Putin is a maniacal despot, who seems determined to take back Ukraine and every other part of that area that was part of the USSR, and maybe desperate to do something as insane as to start WWIII, over the issue, and that has been demonstrated by his continuing to shell and rocket Ukraine during what are supposed to be peace talks.  Sorry to say, but the rest of the planet is too chicken s*(& to back the U. S. and maybe the U. K against the continued Russian aggression, in Ukraine. That is what membership in NATO is SUPPOSED TO BE FOR, and even if Ukraine were a NATO member, NATO would not support standing against Putin. Too late now, but if Trump had been in office instead of that spineless asshole, Biden, there would have been 10,000 U. S. troops on the border, with Ukrainian troops and the invasion would never have taken place.  Now it seems that the U. S. is the only country in a position to face-off in a strong way against Putin. I dont' think Putin is insane enough  (that remains to be seen ) to begin WWIII if the U. S. were to hit Moscow with a missile launch from one of our Nuclear submarines.  President Kennedy, and Bobby Kennedy did face off Khrushchev, during the Cuban Missile Crisis, so it could be done.  What will be done is anybodies guess

These Afghan Mujahideen freedom fighters directly led to the creation of Al-Qaeda.

We do negotiate with terrorists as long as it benefits us , there is no benefit from Putin though. We have weakness coming in from American leadership and this weakness needs to stop. We can’t allow the media to spin and control the narrative.

Not to mention everything else wrong with weak American leadership in general.
From failing to solve gun violence epidemic to male loneliness epidemic to healthcare to prison systems and mandatory minimum sentences and all other mess of things.

No hypocrisy here. And no real policy change. It's just a matter of degree. We will not negotiate with terrorists. They are small potatoes. Not even state sponsored in many cases. We will not lower ourselves to negotiate with second string criminals. Instead we will beat our chest and try to look like we have some sort of morality. Terrorists only have economic value if someone is looking to buy weapons from us to fight the terrorists. But a fascist dictator is a different story. They're the starting lineup. The A-team. They control an economy as well as a military. We may be able to get money out of them somehow. In this case, we drop our pants and bend over for what ever we can get out of the deal. Then we call a press conference and declare ourselves the great peacemaker.

Pepper, you‘re old enough to remember that Reagan negotiated with the Soviets and we certainly do today with awful dictatorships like China and North Korea.

Here’s why you negotiate with Putin- he has to lay his cards on the table when he makes demands. The demands he made in the recent meeting were clearly unacceptable and showed everyone he’s not interested in making a deal (neither is Ukraine, but they’re the more reasonable party).
