You all know the situation: there are times when someone is driving very slowly, at a speed way under the normal flow of traffic. And there are others that go way over the speed most cars and other road users are keeping.

Which is potentially more dangerous? Too fast or too slow in relation to the normal flow?

First step Know the rule book backwards and forwards. Once you get that down you need to stop relying on the rule book but have an active assessment of every step you are taking. Getting complacent is what really gets you in trouble.

Hey there is a slow driver or a speed freak. You have to respond to either on top of where you are at, what is the weather, how many people are around.

With that in mind faster is always more dangerous. Anything slow you should be able to react and deal with. Maybe an exception of a merging lane from an on ramp. That's why it is as long as it is. Not my personal favorite driving situation and I've done some heroic winter storm driving in freezing rain.

Speeders just over take you and disappeared over the horizon. The problem with dawdlers is they force lorries and trucks into the overtaking lanes and that's more dangerous.

True. I let these speeders overtake me, once they're gone I couldn't care less. I keep my eyes on what's immediately ahead and to the sides.

A situation I encounter almost daily : a three-lane road on a relatively steep hill forces all slow moving, heavy laden trucks to the far right line. At times, a truck tries to overtake the slow moving trucks using the middle lane, but actually is going only marginally faster. This in turn means all cars have to take the left side lane and that's where accidents occur.

Going to slow definitely creates more danger.
Once a speeder passes you, they are gone.
But slow drivers cause gridlock, frustration and even road rage. They force people to do risky things to get around them.

Slow drivers should always remain in the slow lane. If they are on a one lane highway and have people behind them, they should pull over at the first opportunity and let people pass. Not to do so is extremely discourteous.

Neither. Both are equally dangerous. The best (normal) solution is to maintain pace with the traffic around you, not slower, not faster.

And don't sit in the left lane blocking people who want to pass. Pass and get over. Cooperate with other drivers on the road with you instead of being an asshole.
