sort of, short trips yes, going faster will not save you much time at all.
Across the country then just 5mph over will save you an hour in every 10 hours of travel.

In UK, speed limit is 10% above in ideal conditions, speed limits are not are a target, they are maximum speed in ideal conditions,

Thanks, I should have said you are allowed 10% on your speedo, and another 10% if cops are monitoring you, BUT this is in ideal conditions, in heavy rain eg, you might get done for "driving without due care and attention",
