I always go 7 to 9 miles over the speed limit when highways are clear. It wrecks my life when I come up behind someone who is going the speed limit.
If traffic is going fast, I gladly go along with traffic.
I pretty much go the speed limit in towns and cities.

I got my driver's license in 1970 when I was 16. I was a holy terror. I even had a souped up, '72 El Camino hot rod in my mid-20s and thought I was Johnny Race. I got quite a few tickets. But things were on paper back then and there were no digital records, so they never notified your insurance company. You could just pay the fine and be done.

When I was 27, I started working as a motor vehicle damage field adjuster/appraiser for an auto insurance company. I would get a list of appointments every morning and drive all around inspecting damaged cars. I drove around 50,000 a year. I tried to get where I needed to be as quickly as possible. I got several speeding tickets over the 30 years that I did that job, but had to be careful not to get more than 3 points on my record a year.

I've toned it down a lot since I retired. I think I've only gotten one ticket in the last 15 years and qualify for safe driver insurance rates.

Given the chance, I pretty muc ignore speed limits, and drive at a speed that is appropriate for the road and conditions. Sometimes that means I drive a lot faster than the limit, and sometimes a lot slower.

For context:

This section of dual carriageway has a limit of 30mph

This single track lane (still two-way) has a limit of 60mph

Usually though, I'm stuck behind queues of slow tourists, and can only dream of speeding.

Sometimes, but not much. In my state, we have a new law called “super speeder.” Basically, anyone driving over 50 miles over the posted speed limit can get arrested if pulled over by the cops.

I usually go 5 over. They don't pull anyone over unless you go 10 or more over but 5 is fast enough for me.

Yes. I live in the US and on the highway I set my cruise to 9MPH over the posted limit. The police won't stop people going less than 10MPH over the limit because they can only stop one car at a time and there are a number of people going faster. The state is now installing speed cameras on the freeways with very little tolerance so I may not be able to do that much longer.

In towns I generally obey the limit because it doesn't cost much time and it's rude to speed in towns.

I typically go with the flow of traffic in the fast lane, which is usually over the speed limit.

Always unless traffic is backed up. Most speed limits haven’t changed much since the 50s, with modern vehicles they should be much higher
