I got $500,000 from an inheritance. It is shocking how small that money is in the grand scheme of being able to retire. At our age we still got to work not full time but longer then you want with a little extra allowance to make life fair.

Hire a wealth management person and they take 1% off the top and that's the best lazy way to do it. At the end of the day it's not any different then the days before getting that winfall of money.

The spookest part is, i am like 90th percentile of wealth not including property like housing, watches or cars in America. So people saving every dollar they can 89% of people don't get to $500,000 that I got at once from my inheritance.

@Ironco it's just kinda crazy how much you need to just die modestly. That means working full time and not changing your lifestyle in any meaningful way.

You would have to get closer to 5 million to even consider helping your family debt without pinching penny's later in life. While you will be investing it that means its not available to your self let alone other people.

I’d change my email, my phone number, as well as all other methods of contacting me. Then I’d hire a financial advisor. I’d invest a lot, set up trust for certain family members. Give my mom n dad a good amount as well as my brothers n sisters. I’d travel a lot w my wife. I’d also do kind gestures for strangers like some people do on YouTube.

Hide it from everyone but direct in home family. I might buy nice gifts randomly for friends. Something they have been wanting and mentioned. Then tell them to keep the source secret.

I’d have to really take carve out some time to make a plan. I’d try to set things up so no one knew I even won, but I would gradually start focusing on things in life that mattered more to me and worrying less about money.
I would try to think of how I could help family, but letting people know you acquired that kind of money can have a lot of downsides unfortunately.

The first thing they tell you when you win the lottery is don't tell friends and family , don't pay off people's debt
Why? Because it'll never be enough and they'll always be back for more , then it becomes emotional and financial blackmail... never tell people what you're doing and never tell people your plans
