Will you read the entire body of this post and accept the challenges therein?

First, i feel compelled to explain that this question is not actually a bait and switch per se. It might feel like that if you accept the following challenges though.

For people who identify as conservative or republican: can you identify ONE progressive or democrat who you respect and admire? Can you identify TWO conservatives or republicans who you can acknowledge need to do and be better?

Same challenge for those who identify as progressive or democrat: can you identify ONE conservative or republican that you respect and admire? Can you identify TWO progressives or democrats who need to do and be better?

Moderates! This should be easy for those of us who have either always been centrist or have moved there from bad experiences with and observations of one or both parties. So i challenge you to name TWO prominent major party members from each side that represent the best of their respective parties and TWO whose party mates need to call out for their poor representation.

Let’s try to keep responses respectful and mindful, please. I have in mind a preconceived notion of which side is going to be more successful at this challenge. I will post an update later explaining my thoughts and whether the responses proved me right or wrong.

It is really hard to think of a democrat that I can admire. Any moderate democrat like Harold Brown and Joe Manchin have been chased out of the party.

There are many Republicans that need to do better. Lindsey Graham, and James Comer are two. There are others.

If we expand the period, do you think you could name one democrat that you respect and admire?
Clinton’s was my first presidency as an “adult”. I was still fairly conservative leaning, for arguably the wrong reasons. However, Clinton’s administration became the first in decades to balance the federal budget. His was also the last to do it. I remember the republicans fighting him on it. Not all of them, it was a bipartisan effort that ultimately achieved the end result. But it was curious that any republicans would challenge the bill considering all their rhetoric about “fiscal responsibility” at the time.
I was a young man at the time and i was more disappointed in his lies about Lewinsky than i was disappointed in his adultery.
I still respect what he achieved as president. Though his ties to Epstein raise concerns for me.

When Biden was running he alienated New Hampshire by making I think Georgia the first state to have a primary. He was left off the ballot in New Hampshire. A nobody named Dean Phillips decided to run as the democrat candidate in New Hampshire. It was a long shot but he was in New Hampshire talking and listening. He actually showed up at a Trump rally and talked to people that that were outside waiting to get in. He had many productive exchanges with Trump supporters. He actually commented on how open and friendly that they were. There were a lot of things that he agreed with and maybe he was just faking it but he seemed like such a thoughtful and downright sane candidate I actually hoped that he would beat Biden who ran an extensive write in campaign. Phillips actually gained 4 delegates.
Phillips is a Congressman from Minnesota.
