Japanese because I started teaching English to Japanese students. I started out reading about Japanese, just to know what I was getting into, and what kind of problems they'd have with pronunciation, grammar, etc. That lead to learning a few words here and there. Which lead to a few more words.
I'm not a language type of person. So I will never be fluent or even close. I'm using DuoLingo, which I think is over rated. I know for sure there are inaccuracies and don't really trust it - which is to say I don't assume it's always right.
Most side-by-side comparisons rate Rosetta Stone better. They have a free trial I want to do.
I would love to live in France, Japan not so much. In Japan I would always be gaijin.
French. I have zero use for Japanese and it sounds annoying and hurts my ears
