My Heritage is Quaker on one side and the lack of genealogical information on the other side leads me to believe that mom was from a family that were remnants of Oglethorpe's penal colony in southern Georgia.

It sounds interesting but sorry I don't understand those words! Quaker? and Oglethorpe?

Quakers were a sect of protestants who formed in England when Catholicism declare war on those who objected to worshiping a Pope. My people were from Normandy, North Coastal France, and simple crossed the English Channel to escape persecution. Quakers, Amish, and Mennonites have similar beliefs. Shunning is one key difference. When English society became very aristocratic and the general populace was starving, Debtor's Prisons started to fill up. Not people of bad character but struggling to survive. Oglethorpe offered Debtor's a chance to absolve their debt by colonizing the malaria infested South of the North American continent. Few survived.

The part concerning Mom's roots is all; speculation. It may or may not be true.

English ship Mayflower, 1620, brought a group of religious pilgrims to North America to escape religious persecution in England. They were the second group of Europeans to inhabit North America.

@4ngelic My mom's family goes back into the 1600's in Virginia, Pennsylvania, South Carolina. Eleven ancestors who fought in the Revolutionary War. An ancestor who once saved Daniel Boone's life. One who participated in the Boston Tea Party. It feels good having such deep American roots!

I moved at the age of 5, and it was to my ancestral homeland, so I don't feel stranger here.

Yes I was, and I currently live about 30 miles from where I was born. My parents were both born on the other side of the country, but two of my grandparents were born in other countries.
