If you want cheaper healthcare, reduce regulation on drugs. The most common reason people visit the doctor is for the common cold or flu. Both are viruses, but people visit the doctor asking for antibiotics. The doctor gets to bill for time and write a prescription, which a pharmacist then has to fill. They gate keep on access to basic drugs and as a result inflate the coast of health care. If common drugs like antibiotics, antiparasitic, corticosteroids, blood pressure medications, etc. didn't require a prescription and thus a doctors visit, then demand for a doctors visit would plummet meaning doctors wouldn't be in as much demand as they currently are. They would have to compete for clients and charge less.

Yes, I read that too. Healthcare costs need to be reigned in. For far too long the healthcare providers have been making obscene amounts of money because that can get away with it. Most people do not question a plastic wrist brace for $500 because insurance pays for it.
There is no reason that a hospital has to charge $2500/ day and up for a hospital bed.
The CEOs of most hospitals have salaries of over a million dollars a year. There is nothing that they do that is worth that kind of compensation.

Well to be fair, health insure companies like United Healthcare are publicly traded companies. So Americans do have the opportunity from the profit (I do a little bit). @msc545 obesity is a huge problem a long with all the other ailments and conditions that go with it. The cost of their healthcare gets passed on to the rest of us that purchase health insurance. It wouldn't be a big deal if there were only a few obese people in America as health insurance costs would come off a broad back but they are legion now. Health insurance is just like any insurance. Car insurance for instance, if there was a 50% increase in car insurance claims for whatever reason then next year the cost of health insurance would rise by 50%. Home insurance? Well if you live in an area that gets forest fires every year well your insurance would cost a lot or the insurance company would refuse to insure you.

@msc545 health insurance is like any form of insurance, the more people claim off of it then the higher it is next year. Remember its a buisness, insurance companies aren't going to take the loss. In california there are home insurance companies that won't operate there, why? Because with all the forest fires this year theyd be broke trying to pay all the insurance claims. Other companies put their rates way up to recoup the huge avalanche of insurance claims this year.
