I think that is the wrong perspective. Trust is basically saying "I believe what you say to be true". If the person says things that aren't true, then of course you don't automatically believe what they say to be true. But that is also how we define honesty. Honesty is more a category of trust or synonym that is slightly different, than a foundation of trust.

Honesty refers to speaking the truth- more like an action. Trust has more to do with reliability and integrity- more like a feeling/intuition/thought process than a specific action. Honesty might be one element of feeling a higher level of trust in someone.

I think honesty is part of it. But if we are being honest we can't expect to like everything about everyone all the time... Honesty doesn't work without freedom. Trust is giving them the option to do as they please... not as you please. Its their choose what brings the trust full circle is when in that freedom they choose you. Thats 2 parts to the foundation of trust, there are more.

TRUST is assured reliance on the character, ability, strength, or truth of someone or something.

Honesty or truth, is part of trust, but I'd say KNOWLEDGE of a person or thing creates trust in it. The more you know about someone or something, the more you can trust it.

    Both RESPECT and HONESTY

Respect is earned and if that is missing then the foundation is breaking.

I’d agree with that statement. I don’t know how universal that statement is now days though. Republicans celebrate having a president who is a habitual and pathological liar 🤥, so I wonder 💭 if truth really matters to many Americans.

Stupidity is the foundation of trust. Never trust. Verify. Not your keys, not your crypto.
