Did you ever have a near death experience?

Luckily for me not really, but as you might have heard in the news, yesterday there was a horrible train accident in Spain. It's a train I sometimes take too and it certainly gets you thinking...

Yes, definitely once. And a couple other questionable times.

But the one I was closest to was when I almost drowned. My family was on vacation and there was a newspaper article that it was high tide season and 2 lifeguards drowned the previous day in an attempt to save someone. My family still decided to go to the beach and swim. I could already see the riptide was strong because of the brown water (the sand mixed with the water at the shore) was apparent. I was a good swimmer, so I thought "whatever".

Then all of my family gets in the water and they almost immediately got out. My mom's partner was scared and doing front crawl as best as he could to get out, but you could see everyone was worried for him because we knew we couldn't help. When he finally got to shore, he was completely pooped and lay on the sand on his stomach with his head to the side, panting in exhaustion.

I stayed in longer because I was confident in being a much better swimmer than them. Maybe 10 minutes of just treading water, and just let the water continuously take me out further. I could see them as little figures on the beach so I knew I was relatively far out. Then I got a little tired and started to try swimming back. I noticed I wasn't getting any closer. I started to try harder, doing front crawl as hard as I could, but each time the tide came, it took me out further. I began to panic a little, thinking this was it, but then a wave of calmness overcame me and my body went into survival instincts mode. I decided to conserve my energy and just go with the flow of the water. What saved me was the swimming technique "breast stroke". Every time a wave came, I'd put all my effort into catching the wave with the strongest breast stroke possible, and during the times I was conserving energy, I'd turn on to my back and do an "elementary backstroke". I was actually getting progress slowly this way and it took me about 5 minutes of doing that consistently to get back to shore. By the time I got there, I was dead tired. My arms and legs felt like noodles. But I made it.

My first job out of high school was in the city about 15-20 miles away. I did not own a car so I hitchhiked to and from work every day. I used to stand on a traffic island that had a blinking light on it and stuck my thumb out after work and usually I could get a ride in 10- 15 minutes. To get to this traffic island I had to cross a busy turnpike. I always looked both ways and ran across. One Friday night in January I ran across and somehow I was struck by a speeding car. I got a glancing blow but it was enough to send me hurtling through the air. I can remember seeing the hiway coming up close and seeing little bits of broken glass and plastic, the result of a thousand rear enders.
Months earlier a homeless man was hit near that area and cars just kept running him over, thinking he was a pile of rags.
As soon as I was struck, I immediately knew I was dead. I knew I would soon be reduced to a pile of rags. Instead of getting scared, I was strangely calm, thinking it wouldn't be a bad way to go if it didn't hurt too much, besides I wasn't doing anything great with my life anyway.
All of a sudden it got quiet. When I looked up everything was bathed in this weird light, sort of like one of those sodium lamps. All the cars were in slow motion as if they were practically frozen. Somehow I got to my feet and finished running across the road. As soon as I got to the other side everything sped up and went back to normal. As if that wasn't weird enough, I felt like I could sense other people who have had similar experiences.
Then I could taste my own blood and found that I had bit through my lower lip.
I limped for a couple of weeks after that but I never figured out what happened.

A near death experience is not when you almost had or were in an accident. It's when you actually die and come back to life. I have not had that happen to me ever, not even when I almost drowned at the beach when a wave came over me and I couldn't get up because of the current.

However, my sister in law's sister did have a near -death experience, giving birth. She was in so much pain, and had no medical insurance, so anesthesia was not given to her in the hospital. She went through severe pain, so much that she lost consciousness, lifted, and was able to see herself above her own body. She saw the doctors hovering over her and trying to resuscitate her. She said at the time she was above her body, she felt no pain. That is a true near-death experience, when you are no longer in your body for a while.

I was being chased by three large dogs. They were about to bite me when I fell onto a rock. Then I felt the dogs right next to me, and I didn't open my eyes at all. I thought they were going to tear me apart, so I surrendered myself. Then, unexpectedly, they left without doing anything.

Everyone who undergo a cardiac bypass has their heart stopped temporarily. I failed to respond when the restart agents were given and the defibrilator was applied. Longer than usual. From the appearance of the Chaplain present, when I woke up, in my room I gathered that the surgical team had throw in the towel. My recovery had not been expected. Evidently when my pulse returned on it's own the scrub nurses were in the process of removing me from support. What I remember hearing while I was without pulse and respiration was this: "Stop trying to be perfect, Enjoy your Life, Read the Book of Genesis, No one has it right Yet, No one ! " It has caused me to think and rethink.

Lets see, I have a list:
-Nearly impaled by a big umbrella when it went flying in a windstorm at the beach.
-Hit by a tornado
-Nearly fell 3 stories due to a literal HOLE in the floor.
-Worked as a mover in college and a dresser slipped out of the other guy's hands when carrying it up the stairs, I was on the bottom and we were at the top of the stairs (I stopped it).
-Was nearly hit by a bus (we are talking a few inches) in a crosswalk at university.
-Nearly hit by ricocheting bullets/fragments
-Have had someone coming down the wrong way of the road at me, I managed to avoid.

A few near-accidents and actual accidents with cars. The near-accidents would have been fatal (wrong-way drivers at high speeds). Similar to your train, one week after I visited a German island, that same small commuter airplane crashed and killed everyone on board. Reading that news gave me a weird feeling in my stomach. 😦

I almost died from drowning in the ocean , when I was younger , a big wave came down on me and the current held me under water for a few minutes , I couldn’t gain my balance from the force of the current. I stayed out of the ocean water for the rest of the day lol

Twice. I was lost in the mountains, climbing out of a ravine when the rock I was holding came off in my hands. Second time, I was following an experienced motorcyclist when I'd just started who braked unexpectedly which left me on the wrong side of the road when I followed suit. I nearly puked in my helmet.

I nearly died a time or three. The first time, I decided to take a swim in the river with a bunch of older kids and I went it where I was sure it was only about a foot or two deep. I got in and sank a good 5 feet and nearly drowned!! One of the older kids saw me, jumped in and saved my life!
I've had pneumonia at least 3 times and came close to dying from it at least twice.

Yes. Last year. I opened my car door, sit inside it and closed the door then right away big truck passed by breaking my car side mirror and fender. IF i would have entered my car 3 seconds later then it would be chance i would have been hit by that truck.
