The installation of the floating barrier is in clear violation of the U. S.-Mexico water treaty, which requires both countries to agree to any structure that can potentially divert the course of the river. For years, Mexico has filed diplomatic protests over violations of the U. S.-Mexico binational treaty, as more wall barriers, shipping containers, and other construction have been installed in the river’s floodplain.

A floating barrier does not "divert the course of the river" and improves border security by making it more difficult for illegals to cross the Rio Grande.

Am I happy that it takes $96 million to do this? No. But it makes me feel good that it improves the security of the southern border.

Be helpful to see how this goes in terms of tragic deaths of people trying to cross as well as reducing need for patrol salaries. if fewer deaths, it's a win. they might be miserable as well on the other side, but that's for their govt and ours to solve if possible.

Raises flood risk

Causes ecological harm

Creates safety hazards

Requires nonstop maintenance

Fails under extreme weather

Becomes ineffective over time

logs and branches

trash

ice

sediment

Those solids accumulate against the barrier.
