Do you think the United States and Western Europe ignore the Russian side of World War 2?

If World War 2 was just the eastern front it would still be the war with the biggest death toll.
Around 27 million of the Russian population died.

It seems to be ignored in the west compared to D day.

i'd bet the vast majority of americans have no clue of the death toll the USSR and Russian people suffered. I doubt most americans know that WW2 wouldn't have gone the way it had without the committment, successes, and sacrifices of the Soviets

we can all probably acknowledge that we were not taught this things in our history classes when discussing WW2.

and the reason? well, it would disrupt the notion that the USSR were the bad guys post WW2 and the US were the white knights

It's not ignored, but the Soviets do not get enough credit for their fight on the Eastern Front- they faced a lot more German divisions and the best ones, too. Yes, US Lend Lease aid, particularly trucks, helped, but they did the bulk of the fighting on land. Imagine how difficult the war would have been had the US and UK had to face those German divisions in the West. D-Day sure wouldn't have come in June 1944.

No, on the contrary. In fact, I think we too often forget that without the help of the USA, the USSR would probably have failed.

I was reading a statistic that a Russian man born in 1923 had only a 20% chance to live after 1945.

The war was won by the alliance between the USA, Britain and the USSR, all of which played an important role in the victory. But the USA was the most important of the three.

No i don't think so. Remember that the Russians got into bed with Hitler.

Also the British and Americans saved the Russians from complete defeat.

No, the West is well aware of what Russians went through in WWII. It has been documented in history books and taught in schools. Hollywood has also made stories about it. It was grisly.

Maybe not Europe, but the US for sure. Americans think we single handedly saved Europe from Hitler

The war would have gone very differently though had Hitler not betrayed Stalin. Russia already took out most of the trash, the US came to scrape the leftovers.

But the topic of d day is d day. That is why. In history class it is not ignored. During the war u. S. (Wrongly) helped Russia so not ignored.

yes, my father was in a POW camp during WW2 and he said that there was a separate prison camp next to where he was. It was a camp for the Russian prisoners. He used to say how they were mistrusted.

The reality was a lot of the deaths were from Stalins brutal stand your ground or die philosophy. Many civilians and soldiers were shot for what he considered cowardice plus his tactics caused unnecessary deaths
