Great question... I used to get so jealous of them in the military. Taxes take half of everything I earn, but they don't pay at all. I felt rich when we would go into a war zone because the pay is tax free... they felt that rich all the damn time.

I used to do the N-426 paper work for them too... never understood why they'd want to get naturalized and pay out the ass like I do. Some do... and you know... good for them. The other just take advantage and then eventually go back where they came from with a tax free retirement check every month paid with our tax money.

As for a winning the lottery whether a foreigner is taxed again in their home country depends entirely on their home country's tax laws. As for the US it automatically withholds a significant portion of lottery winnings. Some countries offer tax credits to avoid double taxation, some don’t & some countries don’t tax gambling winnings.

Lottery wins are only exempted from income tax in country you won. That's why you should have a bank account in country you won to get the money on this account. Otherwise is a lottery win considered as income if there is no exemption and you have pay income tax.
Later on it's probably not a big deal to transfer that money from bank account in country A to country B.

You know what i have no idea. I've been us 4 times as a brit and everytime I go me and my loved ones buy a lottery ticket just for fun. Unfortunately it haven't had much luck yet so im yet to find out but if I know the British government im sure they'd find away to tax me

I'm not sure a foreigner can win a US lottery. Most states have rules that only US citizens, sometimes only state residents, can participate.

That would depend on tax law in their home country. I don't have knowledge of tax laws regarding foreign sourced income in 180 countries.

That depends on the country you win it in, and the country you pay taxes to. There are tax treaties among many countries, but not all, and it doesn't always include winnings like a lottery.

i would say that depends on their home country. i live in germany. in germany, there is no tax on lottery winnings.

Give you an example. Fuel went up during the iran thing. The government was sympathetic over it but what they didn't mention was that fuel is taxed at 50% so when the fuel went up over the iran crisis the British government were profiting off that same 50% tax on fuel.
