What does a successful life mean in today’s world?

Very thoughtful and great question. I think there are different kinds of success, like being one of few people in your circle who doesn't have any health issues and never really did, even into old age, or somehow you're always lucky to find a job while others struggle, or you have a marriage that has made it through the years where neither of you has ever thought about cheating or wanting to end it, while other marriages around you have collapsed.

I think success really can mean more than just the basic goal everyone grows up thinking about: living well, being financially stable/secure, graduating from college, and raising a family that does well. There's a lot more to doing well or accomplishing something than just those standard things.

Would it be external success? Money , Status , Attractiveness , Influence , achievement, experience etc?


Or would it be internal success? Health , self respect , peace , meaning , self respect etc?


I’d suggest a combination of both , but not everyone would agree

I do not make it my goal to maximize financial bliss because I have seen how money can corrupt formerly decent people and ruin their families by turning normally kind people turn into abusers, but I do have the goal to achieve financial freedom so that I can buy things that bring comfort, nourish my body and lengthen my life, and give me peace and material stability.

I think to society still remains bigger jobs = bigger titles = bigger income.
However, success is define differently to each individuals than what may be universal and relative.
As for me, success for a long time was making my parents proud and a positive impact to the world. It’s slowly evolving as I’m growing.

If always meant the same. You set yourself goals and you achieve these goals. If you don't achieve a goal, you use failure learn for future goal setting so that you perfekt setting goals successively. You do that untill you learn to set goals that are challenging but achievable. That's what success is and what it's always was.

Honestly if you can pay your way and be happy with that I think it a small success. I think we live in a world where as much as we strive to reach higher highs and achieve bigger goals it's going to become harder and harder.
