It depends upon their character and platform. People can and do change. Most people make a lot of mistakes in youth. That’s why part of parenting is protecting your children from themselves. That’s also why there are so many laws designed to protect young people from themselves, i. e. “patriarchy”.
But if someone with a tattoo that USED TO BE Nazi imagery sincerely demonstrated reasonable and rational values and a platform that doesn’t suggest adherence to strict fascism or racial persecution, then it’s worth listening to them.
In fact, it makes more sense to me to listen to someone who admits their mistakes and demonstrates that they have changed for the better. It makes less sense to subscribe to the idea that someone portrays themselves as infallible. They’ve never made a bad decision? They’ve never been wrong? They never got in with the wrong people? They’ve never had to recalibrate their value system? Please!
As a twelve stepper, i’ve met a lot of good people who have done terrible things. I don’t think i could trust anyone who claims that they have NEVER done anything wrong. I honestly feel like that’s part of where the modern left went wrong. Their idols are always so well rehearsed and they refuse to take questions for which they haven’t practiced their patent response. The voters idolize them because that portrays the idea that they are never wrong, that they’re “perfect”. That’s also why they get on their high horses and tell the rest of us to sit down and shut up because they know best.
It’s actually a good thing that they are finally attracted to someone who is openly flawed.

Generally, no. But I would want to hear an explanation for it first. A stupid American "jarhead" might have a valid excuse, a regular German does not.
