Who tends to be more arrogant: foreigners or natives in a country?

There is a lot of arrogance out there and I see that foreigners often expect natives to bend and compensate their unwillingness to learn the language and ways of said country. And I wonder who is the most arrogant? The foreigner or native?

I believe there’s an unwritten code to ensure the success of long term travel and it can either decide which category a foreigner is ultimately placed in.


I fully believe that the root of the problem is the expats behavior.
If they chose the arrogant path of refusing to accept that with a new country comes a new culture, they will always be seen as leeches and unwelcome blight ruining everything that once made that place great.


However it they chose to come with a curious and open mind, immerse in the culture and make an effort to understand its history, they will eventually be welcomed.


It will never be easy. There are also narrow-minded natives who don’t wanna hear anything and somehow think they can send away every single foreigner. Not realizing that they’re own countrymen are also expats in other places and shutting down a country makes their stays also problematic.


But whenever someone says “not all immigrants are bad” the ones they consider to be good are the ones who made even a small effort.


For some it’s impossible to integrate no matter how hard they try and I believe those people should willingly chose to leave because they will be miserable 100% of the time.

Natives I think for Americans. I can't prove this but just from my experience since I live in a really diverse place and interact with people from everywhere.

Great question. I've been a foreigner twice in my life so I would say natives, based on where I lived really, but I suspect it is extremely dependent on which country, situation, etc. And there are a lot of foreigners who exploit a country's immigration rules as well so you know what, change the rules then. It's not the foreigners fault, if someone had offered me free money I would have taken it just like the rest of you. But they didn't and I made my way anyway. The problem once again lies with the boys up top and their agenda rather than your neighbor trying to figure it out.

I think it's partly related to our relative isolation from other countries. But many Americans have also bought into the delusion of "American Exceptionalism".
