We've reached a teachable moment...

It is human nature for a person to subconsciously believe that others think just like them. (This is one reason why education and travel are imperative - it forces the person to realize that others are different - often considerably different.)

So, for example, when a person subconsciously thinks in black and white terms (which is often what conservatives do because it is easier that way for them), they assume others think in black and white as well and they will look for evidence of just that and not see the nuances and grey areas of others thinking.

In fact, that's a hallmark of left-leaning thinking: that things are not black and white and are often more complex than they may initially appear without deeper thinking. The unfortunate thing is that that same rule of human nature applies to left-leaning people as well... They assume others are equally adept at realizing these complexites and don't realize that many people think in black and white terms. This is why Democratic politicians often have a problem over the last 30 years of connecting with people in "red states" or other conservatives. Politicians who are successful with conservatives usually put things in simple black and white terms even if what they say is full of shit.

Here's an example...

The late conservative radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh III would argue like this:

"Conservatives love America! But the leeee-berrrr-als... (cynical laugh) huh, huh, huh."

In a way, this is brilliant! Why? Because it's "black and white" and poor logic and he takes advantage of it. Limbaugh doesn't outright say "Liberals hate America" because they don't. But he lets his listeners think in black and white terms and use poor logic to imply that. The black and white thinking conservative listener thinks like this:

Conservatives love America.
Liberals are the opposite of Conservatives.
The opposite of love is hate.
So, Liberals hate America.

That is a logical fallacy. Limbaugh didn't care. He'd foment anger and hate due to his listeners' poor logic skills

Conservatives eat food.
Liberals are the opposite of Conservatives.
The opposite of eating food is not eating food.
So, Liberals don't eat food.

Well, that's obviously horseshit. But, this is an identical logical fallacy!

Limbaugh didn't care about such fallacies. He'd foment anger and hate due to his listeners' poor logic skills and black and white thinking. That was smart because he doesn't get as many defamation lawsuits. This is unlike idiots like Alex Jones who just fomented hate and falsehoods outright and, accordingly, has to pay a billion-dollar penalty.
