Like all socialists, they have no concept of consequences for actions, and they pretend that you can make a big change to a system and everything else will stay the same - but that's never been true.

The market will be worse and prices will go up, and so more laws will be made to "fix it" just like this one was supposed to.

His government grocery store, which will pay no rent or taxes, will undercut the corporate stores and drive them out, and then the government store will fail and require massive tax payer money to survive.

Meanwhile, 40% of businesses have left the city and the trend continues. That massively reduces the tax base so taxes will have to be increased, AND the city will still go deeper in debt, accelerating the cycle. In 5 years, NYC will look like it did in 1970, but no one will remember how it got that way.
