Socialism and Communism offer one major attraction:

The chance to protest drastically.

Both alternatives in their pure version practically have nothing useful to offer.

The majority of people is dumb, under-funded, powerless and kind of suppressed.

This is the breeding ground that challenges the conservative views. And if it so happens that the establishment is overly mis-using, mis-handling, and mis-managing the power they temporarily possess - we may see a ''revolution'' or a take-over, or a ''landslide'' in elections.

Especially in the U. S. - as a result of 'cold war propaganda' mass brainwash - anything ''non-capitalist' is thrown into the ''Commie-Threat-Enemy-Destabilisation'' category.

If your question refers to your DSA (Sanders and Co) I would sum it up like this:

The idea is not to 'overturn' , but rather to - democratically - add components that look after the weak, the poor or the 'helpless'. ''Capitalism'' is a thing that exists parallel, and likely (in the U. S.) will remain a dominant tendency.

Some of the trade-offs:

- Musk (and similar) will perhaps have a few million less in his pocket. His breakfast is safe though.

- Commercial greed will be harder to be satisfied (to a few)

- ''Hard liner Americans'' no longer will be able to hide behind Mom's superiority skirt

They offer the citizens medicare for all, rent control, and food and open borders and get rid of ICE, the Police and to close all the prisons and let all the criminals out.
The tradeoffs is that the healthcare system will become a joke, rental property will fall into disreapir and finally the city will have to take it over. Illegal aliens will swarm to the place like flies on shit and there wil be a lot more crime without the police. The tax base will flee and the city will collapse under it's own weight.
