The US and every other western nation employs socialist policies and practices to the betterment of the majority of citizens. This is a simple and absolutely undeniable fact. If we ended every socialist expenditure by government, the morons decrying socialism would cry the loudest and the longest.
The trick is employing socialism incrementally so that everyone does benefit. The smaller the groups who benefit, the further from true socialism we get and it just becomes another crony economy like the capitalism most of us suffer now. There are some very smart liberals proposing policies and practices that have been implemented elsewhere to varying degrees of success. The democrats deliberately overlooked them for social extremists. They are overly focused on increasing privileges for tiny groups of minorities and punishing everyone else for enjoying the privileges they have long held. That’s a recipe for disaster. They will fail, as they always have. The only question is ‘How much of the USA will they tear down in the process?’.

Your house is on fire and your mother is trapped but you didn't pay for the premium fire fighter subscription for personal rescue. you got to pay upfront the one time cost premium rescue. Hope you left your wallet full of cash outside.

While your neighbors did get all the premium subscription fire fighters. Because your home wasn't so insured the fire got out of control and spread to neighbors you are now liable for the homes and subscription costs.

The democratic party is just the governing body and method to determine what is and isn't right. You have rights in a democracy. You do not have rights from a corporation selling something. A subscription or insurance policy is no different then a tax if it's required.

Socialism: If you have two cows, you give one to your neighbor.
Communism: If you have two cows, you give them to the Government and the Government then gives you some milk.
Fascism: If you have two cows, you keep the cows and give the milk to the Government; then the government sells you some milk.
Nazism: If you have two cows, the Government shoots you and keeps the cows.
Capitalism: If you have two cows, you sell one and buy a bull.

And I'll add this one:

Trumpism: If you have two cows, you milk them both till they're dry and can't milk anymore, sell the milk for little or no profit, try to sell the cows for hamburger meat but get pennies on the dollar, can't afford to buy new cows, go on SNAP & Medicaid.

Democratic socialism isn't really socialism. It is capitalism with a little higher taxes and a few more social benefits. Take Sweden. There are really rich and really poor people in Sweden. There are big corporations such as Volvo that have rich CEOs who seek profits and much poorer workers. There are homeless. There are private banks. There is a stock market where people can speculate, get rich or poor. There are people who own many homes. Sounds like capitalism to me. People just throw the word socialism around so they can feel good about themselves.

US-Americans have the ability to screw up and misinterpret pretty much every political term, but for what’s it worth, most countries in Europe are social market economies and rather successful with that mix of capitalism and strong social support systems.

Exactly how is your neighbor being allowed to take your money and property any better than the government doing it? In any case, you end up under communism if allowed to go unchecked. In a democracy, you're subject to what the majority wants. We live in a constitutional republic that is designed to PROTECT you from the majority. Other wise it's just mob rule.

i don't quite understand the question. how could socialism not be democratic? is non democratic socialism not a strong contradiction? cause if the means of production aren't controlled by the people, it's by definition not socialism. like how could the means of production be controlled by "the people" if not through democracy?

Socialism has never been proven to be successful. In fact, quite the opposite. Capitalism and democracy, as imperfect as it is, has still been proven to be the best system humans have ever created.

Well before you get all triggered, …it’s not as black n white as you make it sound. There’s some nuance to the various descriptions. There are some very appealing aspects to democratic socialism. Whatever the Fu*k we have got going now, it ain’t working nor is it ideal. And it’s not a binary choice, of either or…. Maybe the answer is in a blended sort of concept?

"Considered"? As long as you can vote to change things, any system, especially limited socialism (like in the US), is fine.

Of course, democracy is the basic ideal of most modern forms socialism and communism, as opposed to right wing ideals of oligarchy, autocracy, or monarchy where you don't get to choose your leaders.

Cue a bunch of examples of one party rule autocracies that claimed to be left-wing.

Socialism is an economic system that promotes equality. It is not a governmental system at all, and it is entirely possible for socialism and democracy to coexist. Both of them are actually better off when they do coexist.

Where did you get educated that you don't understand this? Do you seriously think that capitalism and authoritarianism combined are somehow a better system?
