+1 yUm, yeah! ANY country.
Even Margaret Thatcher knew that. Too bad after 30 years, the UK is falling back into the same cesspool.
Before I forget - nice little popgun - but I digress - - - -
"I came to office with one deliberate intent: to change Britain from a dependent to a self-reliant society—from a give-it-to-me, to a do-it-yourself nation. A get-up-and-go, instead of a sit-back-and-wait-for-it Britain. Marxists get up early in the morning to further their cause. We must get up even earlier to defend our freedom."
"I place a profound belief—indeed a fervent faith—in the virtues of self-reliance and personal independence. On these is founded the whole case for the free society, for the assertion that human progress is best achieved by offering the freest possible scope for the development of individual talents, qualified only by a respect for the qualities and the freedom of others... For many years there has been a subtle erosion of the essential virtues of the free society. Self-reliance has been sneered at as if it were an absurd suburban pretention. Thrift has been denigrated as if it were greed. The desire of parents to choose and to struggle for what they themselves regarded as the best possible education for their children has been scorned."
"Some socialists seem to believe that people should be numbers in a State computer. We believe they should be individuals. We are all unequal. No one, thank heavens, is like anyone else, however much the socialists may pretend otherwise. We believe that everyone has the right to be unequal but to us every human being is equally important."
"The economic success of the Western world is a product of its moral philosophy and practice. The economic results are better because the moral philosophy is superior. It is superior because it starts with the individual, with his uniqueness, his responsibility, and his capacity to choose. Surely this is infinitely preferable to the socialist-statist philosophy which sets up a centralized economic system to which the individual must conform, which subjugates him, directs him and denies him the right to free choice. Choice is the essence of ethics: if there were no choice, there would be no ethics, no good, no evil; good and evil have meaning only insofar as man is free to choose."
"There is no such thing as 'safe' socialism. If it’s safe, it’s not socialism. And if it's socialism, it’s not safe. The signposts of socialism point downhill to less freedom, less prosperity, downhill to more muddle, more failure. If we follow them to their destination, they will lead this nation into bankruptcy.
"I would much prefer to bring them [ socialists] down as soon as possible. I think they’ve made the biggest financial mess that any government’s ever made in this country [Great Britain] for a very long time, and Socialist governments traditionally do make a financial mess. They always run out of other people’s money. It’s quite a characteristic of them. They then start to nationalise everything, and people just do not like more and more nationalisation, and they’re now trying to control everything by other means. They are progressively [ there's that P word ] reducing the choice available to ordinary people." [ comments in braces, mine ]

We need more Margaret Thatcher's in the world.

That happens time and time again, until you get tired of working hard.
After a while most people quit working hard then most people end up with nothing, or very little33 Reply- +1 y
Sounds about right. When one loses their incentive to work they no longer will.

Just about all of them have been disasters, such as with Venezuela. Most people there make less than $5 a day. A roll of toilet paper was selling for over 2 million Bolivars.

+1 yPrice’s law serves to be a derivative of the human species. It cannot be solved in a utopian vision of an economic structure in which you perceive will benefit everyone. Every species throughout earths history operate in t his way. Humans are driven by greed, and capitalism works because it provides disincentives and incentives that coincides with our psychology. Governments have a history of poor performance when it comes to replicating an organic supply and demand equilibrium. Socialism works well in singular sector, or a rather smaller economies. Socialism would radically fail in a country like the US for a lot of reasons. I think an Austrian model would solve a lot of our economic issues here in the US.
Also, why would we trust the federal reserve with more monetary power when they just got caught doing inside trading? When they’ve been openly lying about inflation. Would you trust our politicians with fiscal policy with all of their corruption? Who controls this utopia? Anytime you give humans too much power in the form of a commanding entity, corruption and chaos wreaks havoc. All of human history shows this to be true.30 Reply
+1 ySocialism is based upon a good idea, but the foundation collapses whenever put under the stresses of society. People misuse it and it never goes well, because there's always someone there to abuse the easily abusable system. It happened with Stalin, Mao, Cuba, and other places.
If there was a way to maybe make sure that people couldn't take control, then maybe it could work. But then that system that makes sure people couldn't take control, would be in control and would be corrupt. It's a cycle of people abusing the system which causes it to collapse in reality.30 Reply3.7K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. Yes socialism is what the U. S. S. R had and what China has, in order to be truly communist the government has to step down. Socialism is the 2nd step in communism. Socialism was the number 1 causes of death in the 21st century. Socialism is worse then nazism. Both are horrible but socialism cause a lot more pain and suffering and tends to leader to starvation and death

"in order to be truly communist the government has to step down."
Yes, and what people don't understand is that true communism isn't possible because a dictator will seize power and take advantage of everyone.
8K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. You already have socialism as a fundamental part of your society so unless you advocate for removing things like police, firefighters, public schools, public roads and highways etc.. then its not a question of if you think socialism is bad or not but to what degree you want.
23 Reply- +1 y
Usually Socialist societies are run by dictators so the military and police are already in their pockets. They don't care about roads and that because the nation doesn't have money for that, just enough to keep the people in line.
- +1 y
I disagree but you are entitled to your opinion.
26.4K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. Only people at the bottom would vote for it. They have the welfare mentality, want to be told what to do and want the government to take care of them. Socialism sounds good but as soon as printing more money stops working so does everything else.

Anonymous(36-45)+1 yTerrible idea that has never worked anywhere it's been tried. Taking away the incentive for working hard will always result in less work, lower productivity, and a general decline in the quality of everyone's life.
Amazing how fast this topic always brings out the reflexive "you don't know what socialism really is!" counter argument. When the far left can't defend their bad ideas, they resort to "You're just too stupid to understand!"30 Reply12K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. Isn't it funny how everyone was united after 9/11 and now we are at each other's throats again?
- +1 y
You were not united after 9/11. Imagine being an Arabic Muslim man with a US nationality and tell me how much unity you would receive from your fellow countrymen walking around with a turban around the area of the collapsed towers. There are still conflicts about how close you can build a mosque to that place.

- +1 y
Ah yes, setting aside your differences to unite against another minority group. Truly unifying. Granted this just further increased divisions and while perhaps not directly caused the division today at least had a common cause that resulted in both.
A prelude of what was to come if you will.
+1 ydo you mean actual socialism where the government owns all the means to production or social democracy where it’s a market based economy but with exorbitantly high taxes to provide a social safety net for every citizen like in the scandinavian countries?

The Scandinavian countries aren't necessarily following any direct form of "socialism".

@007kingifrit So capitalism was perfect in history, wasn't it?
- +1 y
@alexanderdelarge7 humans are imperfect and cannot build perfect things. but capitalism has never failed as a system. it doesn't collapse the way socialism does
it also can actually feed its own citizens unlike communism. it also doesn't have shortages in general. all we want is available - +1 y

@maddie2003 Continue to experience the beauties of Capitalism..
- +1 y
@alexanderdelarge7 We're not capitalist anymore-
- +1 y
@maddie2003 Since when?
- +1 y
@alexanderdelarge7 We actually have a mixed economy, mainly due to the Sherman Antitrust Act which put a ban on monopolies. Ironically, this did nothing as Big Tech is now controlling our lives. The nation has been like this for a while, but the Democrats have tried to level out the playing field with laws such as the Affordable Care Act and things like Disability. Now, the new thing is stimulus checks, where our tax dollars get divided among everyone evenly. Trump started it, Biden is just continuing this practice. And like a socialist nation, we have a lot more folks living below the poverty line now, mainly due to poor governors like Newsom and Cuomo.
- +1 y
@maddie2003 But anyway people choose Joe Biden.

@maddie2003 This @alexanderdelarge7 user is obviously a lazy person with no discernible or marketable talent, living in one of the lazy European Union countries that leech off of the money to the European Union by France and Germany. Within the next 15 years, France and Germany are going to leave the European Union, just like the United Kingdom, because their populations are growing tired of being overly taxed to support laziness.

Some people live in luxury. Some people die from hunger. In the same country. I don't want to see that.

I'm sure there will still be people dying from hunger someplace in the world. Giving equal money to the lazy to match the industrious workers is not anything I want.
- +1 y
Socialism doesn't mean equal money.
