Socialism is a broad philosophy that recognizes that people have their needs met socially. They help each other out.

Applying this attitude to a society can help distribute the wealth and the benefits of living in a wealthy nation.

Conversely, the socialist regimes in Eastern Europe were very dictatorial because so much power went to the government.

Remember that East Germany was called "Democratic" - and so is North Korea - before you label things as 'socialist'

There are only pros to elements of socialism. Technically speaking, the government maintaining the roads, the sewage system and public schools is technically socialism, but that's because those are very speciffic areas where it's more efficient in the end to have the government maintain it through tax-payer money because literally everyone uses the roads and the sewage system.
The government being responsible for consumer products is the reason my parents stood in long lines at the store just to maybe get something that would have likely been sold out by the time it was their turn.

I’ll give one pro and one con


Pro: the right to food and water, social security & housing, religious practice, education healthcare, employment and payment would be afforded to everyone. Greed and wealth wouldn’t control people.


Con: The wealthy 1% wouldn’t be too happy if they weren’t allowed to hoard all the wealth anymore, so they enforce individualism and competition at a young age as opposed to working together as a team since it prepares kids to work under a capitalist society that in order to succeed promotes greed and exploitation.

The wealthy in this country would take their money and leave. Nobody in this country is required to share their assets or wealth, other than taxes, and again, if the wealthy feel over taxed, they’ll take their money and leave the country.

capitalism is actually the natural state. At its core it's just freedom and allowing people to make their own decisions about what they do with their time and what they own and having private ownership of stuff instead of everything being owned by the collective AKA the government.

Pros: elevated standard of life for people who would not otherwise be able to afford it.
Cons: Hella expensive, because the people who get paid by the government to render the services can charge obscene prices with very little input from the taxpayer.

Pros: few because it doesn’t work.
Cons: it doesn’t work. The market functions reasonably well in overcoming asymmetric information and a lack of models to plan the means of production. As it turns out, a government cannot remotely efficiently plan an economy because a) the information to do so does not exist openly without market interaction and b) economic models are not even remotely suitable enpugh for it.
