It doesn’t matter at this point. As usual, capitalism found a way around the rules.
The US doesn’t have state run media. However, Disney, CBS, Viacom, AT&T, Newscorp and Comcast control almost everything that you see and hear in the united states. The people who own and run those six companies have the resources to install political candidates who guarantee favorable legislation. So by every measure, it appears that the mainstream media is government owned because the same people who do own the media also own our “elected” officials.
YAY CAPITALISM!!!
Yes, which they do in my country and it should ideally be limited to that.
Its called "Broadcast time for political parties" a small snippet on the public broadcaster where they can spend a few minutes broadcasting something they make.
That is the extent it should be, but unfortunately the propaganda is everywhere since its also enforced by the corporations. Its a toxic merge of corporations and state, which I think had a term for it.
No, we don't need MORE government in our lives. God forbid. We already have plenty and it changes from one day to the next.
The government already has that. It is known as mainstream media.

I'm in the U. S. and they already do. Corporate media can't stray from government approved narratives. Truly independent journalists who research actual facts can't get hired. Even on-line, they get de-monitized, de-platformed, marginalized, mocked, slandered, threatened and even punished.
no. especially not with government money. also if facebook puts warnings on trumps posts he should open his own discussion website. he did truth social.
but not from government money. also y'all should try it truth social see if you like it. especially if you were censored here.
If anyone actually cared not to make the same mistake Hitler made, they would say no to state controlled media. However, these same people would swear up and down they aren't state controlled but they just so happen to completely align with the powers that be anyway.
No way as 'The first freedom of the press is not to be a business'
Well! Without it, how could they possibly flood Europe with millions of Muslim migrants, or create race wars in the US? Give them a break! They only want the collapse of he western world and it's replacement with a communist islamo fascist regime!
So "they" caused the authoritarian Arabic regimes to implode? How did "they" do that?
@DryGermanGuy might be right. Just look at all the problems Germany has.
@DryGermanGuy so you like MSM? That's always nice. They need supporters with trustworthiness ratings lower than congress
Our mainstream media (mainly public TV stations) is in no way comparable to these shrill and loud shows (!) the Americans call news.
@DryGermanGuy yes yes, the perfect German society. In no way has German media mislead the public. Germans simply don't have that problem.
We are doing quite well actually, which is confirmed by international studies.
@DryGermanGuy yes yes, like the study posted by poppy that showed Russia as the most violent country on the planet. Clearly no bias in abworkd where Sudan can be put on a human rights committee for the UN. Everything works just fine. 😂
*a world not abworkd
And any of these problems are related to media in Germany... how?
@DryGermanGuy it's not really my problem is you assume Germa media is perfect and unbiased. It's a ridiculous position to take. If it's your position, then you are likely already lost.
@DryGermanGuy besides, your replies here have less to do with you defending German media (which isn't even central to my post), but your general hatred or dislike of the US.
You are such a weird and uneducated little person. Apply yourself.
@DryGermanGuy I've seen plenty of your posts friend, to make a very educated guess. You are quite active. So let's be honest with each other.
@DryGermanGuy Back to the central post. What about it is incorrect? Do you believe the media has bee completely honest about the migrant issue? They never covered up crimes in Europe? They didn't become a mouthpiece for the government in the UK and hide knowledge of migrant rapes? They didn't cover up for Fauci in the US? Nor did they ever sensationalized race issues in the US, like the Karmelo Anthony case, by misleading the public and creating outcry?
@DryGermanGuy you are going to have to learn this is all about $$$ and power. The media is one of the major culprits. It sensationalizes things. It routinely pushes fake stories (like ivermectin, which CNN ran for a while). Each outlet services shareholders and has political allegiances. It's why independent media is more popular today. Indeed, even 20 years ago the media was central in pushing questionable stores on the basis of what could gain the most traction. This isn't new. Today, it's central to the culture war.
You basically disqualified yourself from the start by assuming a "they". Who is "they"? And again, how did "they" (whoever that is) cause large parts of Northern Africa to implode and cause its inhabitants to search for shelter and rescue?
By the way, the idea that FOX and CNN work secretly together to deceive the public as almost funny.
@DryGermanGuy Your perspective (I assume) that German media is unbiased, or has never misreported for the state is blatantly wrong. It's like claiming your government is also altruistic and never self serving. Could it. be better than the US? Sure. The US has significant political and social divisions that are reinforced through media outlets. However, the illusion that media isn't culpable is quite ignorant. Even if we take a liberal/progressive view of media, there is an acknowledgement of foul play. They recognize from their perspective the media enforcement of public opinion on many issues (such as various military conflicts). The acceptance that msm is an issue is actually one of the few things both sides of the political aisle agree on. The disagreement is on the truth, or who was doing the misreporting.
The Ivermectin reporting of CNN was rather solid, contrary to the fables from internet kooks and grifters:
edition.cnn.com/.../ivermectin-infection-treatment-prevention-wellness
@DryGermanGuy they supported and pushed wars that caused the crisis and then they enforced a Marxist ideals that those refugees needed homes and should be supported for he failings of the west.
@DryGermanGuy did I say they work together?
Again, who is "they"?
And there are no Marxists left, drop this dumb term already, you have no clue what it means.
The problem is that you don't speak my language and don't know our public TV system, so how could you compare it to the silly and loud American media landscape (which i know too well).
@DryGermanGuy think of the reinforcement of censorship through social media. The UK imprisoned no less than 12,000 people on the basis if media posts. Consider how they (both governments and private corporations) enforced such things during covid. Take for example the Crowder case where he was banned on YouTube because of perspectives on covid (that turned out to be true). Recognize even the Cuomo, admitting, CNN falsified stories during the Era. Even Gupta (CNNs medical pundit) admitted on Joe Rogan they faked the overmectin story.
@DryGermanGuy I don't? Why does Avila Chevelair cal herself one? Maybe you watch too much German propaganda? 😂

Joe Rogan Confronts CNN’s Sanjay Gupta on Ivermectin / Pepper Peep
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vWWiopUcfkI oh yes, fair
What Ivermectin story is there to "fake"? Do some idiots still believe taking a de-worming medication would help against a corona virus? That's clearly their problem then, ffs!!!
@DryGermanGuy the issue is CNN lied about what the drug was, likely due to shareholders. This is admitted by Gupta, and even Cuomo. They fabricated stories to push a narrative. Like they do with all culture war issues.

"You Should Apologize" - Joe Rogan Vindicated in Heated Debate Over COVID Coverage / Valuetainment
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yWTHmX-QzPw this is just one example. It's always lies. Regardless of who reports. Its why MSM isn't trusted
@DryGermanGuy sorry friend, you are just not going to win a battle on trustworthiness of news. I'm sure the asker of this question can happily inform you of the BS in Europe, which we both know is happening. From the government all the way down to the media. You don't run into many thousands of natives being sexually assaulted and denied by the media for virtue signalling without having serious problems. Yes, much of this is based on Marxism. Many socialist leaders acknowledge this reality. Avila Chevelaer just won the NYC 14th district, and acknowledged her Marxist perspectives, antiwestern, antiwhite, anticapitalist views. She was supported by Mamdani, who is now one of the largest figures of his party. Oppressed vs oppressor perspectives are often used especially in a social standard. The UK aggressively suffers from this, where they'd rather arrest a dying white boy, due to claims of racism. In many ways, it's worse in Europe. The US is at least battling this nonsense
@DryGermanGuy let's take it from another direction. You don't think more conservative media outlets like Fox News didn't have an influence on pushing anti Vax positions in the populace? Or they haven't exaggerated Trumps successes to his base? I'm certain you'd agree Fox News often pushes fake news with a conservative lean? I know you do, I've seen you post. Your political stances are clear. Fox News loves Trump. He often can do no wrong in their eyes. Ask yourself why.
No, cable media should have to be licensed by the government just like over the air broadcasts. Monopolies must be broken up and media outlets need to be limited once again.
They don't need to own any media. They can just legally coerce them to do what they want.
We have that in the US -- Fox News.
Fuck no.
We have NPR
